What happens if you double-click on the prefpane in the Finder?

Double clicking on it opens it in system preferences just as you would
expect it to.

I meant to say earlier, when I said that I right clicked on it and
tried to specify it again as the default app that it "didn't work". I
meant it worked to do that, but it didn't fix the next attempt to
complete a growl install.

All that being said, growl seems to be working...so whatever it did
was enough to get it working, but of course I am not 100% convinced it
was a complete install since the installer did not complete.

And now of course I'm a bit paranoid that something in my system is
broken but I have no idea what.

ok strange. I have it working now, but who knows why. Here is what I
did.

- I used a tool called unpkg to just extract the clean prefpane file
out of the installer.

- I removed the old prefpane by right clicking it from within System
prefs.

- I double clicked on the extracted prefPane, which asked me if I want
to install it. I chose for all users and confirmed.

- It installed but crashed the system prefs in the process somehow.
(I sent the report to Apple, but forgot to save it). Actually sitting
here now I am not sure if it crashed when I installed it or removed it
again.

- After that I ran the normal Growl installer and now its working
perfectly. I can uninstall and reinstall at will with no error.

Conclusion: Somehow installing the prefPane manually must have flushed
something out that is now not getting in the way. I really don't have
any other explanation. I wish I had the saved system prefs crash log,
but its gone, unless its here on my system somewhere. If you think it
is and you want it, let me know.

You'll find it in the Console application.

I will look for that. Been doing some backup and restore, so it might be
gone now unfortunately but if I can find it I will, just in case the segv or
whatever it was was due to growl.

Unfortunately the logs are gone. I've been doing a lot of backup/
restore today. Can't replicate the problem anymore either.
