I have far too many menu bar items already! I do not want another one
that basically will never be used apart from install day

Growl was perfect when invisible. Please make an option to be
invisible again

Yes please. I understand that the preference pane is gone now so it
would take some magic getting the icon back in the menu bar once you
delete it, but with all the other unremovable icons my menu bar is
already half full... I would really appreciate the option, even if
it's hidden and settable only through the terminal to ensure that only
users how know what they're doing can hide the icon.

The only real purpose of the current icon is providing access to the
settings pane anyway.

I agree. I far preferred the option of making it invisible and configuring through a preference pane item.

Thanks,

Yes please, Growl 1.3 should at least an option to make it run hidden.
The space available on the menubar on a 13" mbpro is small and these
days
every other app seams to want a permanent presence there :(

Thank you,
Pedro

Hi!

Not only that, but it makes it unreachable by VoiceOver, as Apple hasn't taken care of this particular problem yet.

So, changing that back would be nice, so I can actually get to my settings after the tutorial.

Nic

Why is the preference pane gone?

There's like 10 discussions on this already.  Apple doesn't allow PrefPanes in the Mac App Store.

The prefpane will not be returning. Growl is now an application. This is for multiple reasons:

1) They are not allowed in the app store.

2) It reduces the amount of complication within Growl dramatically.

3) It reduces the amount of code we have to maintain dramatically.

4) It's less confusing for some users.

We're going to look into this for 1.3.1.

Hopefully you mean you're looking at offering a "Hide menu bar icon" setting. This doesn't mean there's a need for a pref pane - if you need to get to Growl you just launch the app.

Thanks - cool app and love 1.3 in the app store.

That's exactly what we're planning. There's actually going to be 4 options, this is one of them.
