I am more or less getting growl notifications over 3g to the mac. The issue I have is that everytime a notification comes in, it registers as a new item under applications because more often than not, it is under a new 3g ip. This means that I cannot configure notifications since the app keeps changing.

The transmitter is an iphone. I tried adding this line in Subscriptions on the receiving mac but without success

Is there a solution to this thanks.

Running latest Growl on mac os 10.8.3

So, to be sure I understood, what I interpreted that as, is that your
computer is tethered to an iphone, and you are sending notifications
back to your computer at home, home is adding new entries due to
fluctuating IP address. And you have tried subscribing the home
computer to the tethered computer using BTMM.

First, are you sure your BTMM address is correct, it's not user name,
but a user id number string thing? BTMM is kind of a pain in the rear,
and you need to be sure your home computer is able to connect to your
phone on it's tethered connection. A good test is to open ssh on the
tethered mac, and ssh in from the home computer using that address.
Second, quite frankly, Im not sure how reliable subscriptions is yet,
its not something we've had a lot of feedback on yet. Looking at the
code, it might not handle this situation well, it doesn't look like it
presently retries if the computer it's subscribing to isn't there at
the moment (it does retry on IP address change, but your home computer
wont be changing IP that much)

Odd, just realized, the initial problem, multiple entries created,
shouldn't be happening. We use a GNTP Header (the Sent-By) header to
declare what computer sent it, and we try to use your computers
bonjour name for that. It shouldn't be generating multiple entries
just because of changing the IP address, unless you are using some
other method of GNTP forwarding which isn't sending the Sent-By
header.

Can you include all of the information possible about how you have this setup from end to end? Versions of Growl or whatever else you have need to be specific.

Ok, I have been carefully looking at what is going on.

Setup:

Growl Receiver: Macmini running 10.8.3 with Growl runing 2.0.1

Growl Sender: ipad running Growlnotifier (cydia tweak)

Supplemental application: Notificator (cydia tweak) which displays a notification when the ipad is connected or disconnected.

It seems that the notifications created by Notificator are either not being sent by Growlnotifier or not being received by Growl when the ipad is on 3g. This process works perfectly well when the ipad is on wifi. Other notifications are also sent and received perfectly well over 3g eg. mail, facetime etc. Therefore, rather than trying to trouble shoot which of the 3 possible apps are the issue, it would be best for me to wait till the btmm.cloud subscription is up and running as well as you would expect it to. As you can see below, I have added two subscriptions exactly as you have suggested. Adding or deleting these makes no impact on the results ie. I get the same notifications coming through and the same ones absent. I hope that it is added correctly.

I hope this clarifies the setup.

Ah, so, I didn't think btmm worked at all with an iOS device even with
cydia (tbh never jailbroken any devices), but BTMM requires an IPv6
route (either tunnel or real), and most cell networks aren't yet
giving out IPv6 to my knowledge, so you might check that.
