Hi All,

I would like to re-register Sparrow with Growl. How can I do this? (Sparrow 1.6.3, Growl 1.4, OSX 10.7.4)

Many Thanks for your help,
David

The simplest way is to delete the ticket from Growl (Go to the
applications list in preferences, select Sparrow, press delete)
Then, relaunch Sparrow.
Assuming everything is working right, that should be enough. Sparrow
has been kind of wonky in the past, but as far as I know its working
at least on 10.7.4 at the moment with Growl.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, this did not work. Is
there a way I can do it "manually"?

Sparrow 1.6.3 is NOT working for me either. Growl not is not registering the application anymore (Mac OS Lion).. or should I say Sparrow is not registering itself with Growl? Pretty disappointed about that, I don't know what happened. Stopped working sometime recently-

Guys just to let you know, I've opened a ticket about this and I've been told now that developers at Sparrow are looking into this. I assume they will and I'm hoping we will see the root cause and a fix soon. If they find out what's going wrong...

I got my growl notification back when I removed recently added pop3 account, so could be relation because I think I lost my notification just at that time when is added..
Carsten: can you update the ticket with my info or try to replicate the issue on your side?

thanx
davor

Can you ask them in the ticket to look at Growl 2 sdk?

@Davor
I can rule that out because I've never added any accounts other than my main GMail account. But I will mention it, so far there's nothing new.

@Christopher
Yes I can, will do that.

For some of the other apps check the preferences for notifications and try setting them to Growl

I am having a similar problem. Sparrow notifications stopped (Sparrow 1.6.3 & Growl 1.4). I removed the Sparrow ticket and other tickets from software no longer installed. This didn't work so I removed all tickets. When I started Sparrow, a new ticket wasn't created and it did not appear in the applications list when others did (Twitter, Less app, Cyberduck etc.).

Yes and already done. Also tried setting Growl notifications to 'no' and re-starting Sparrow and Growl. Then setting Growl notifications to 'yes' in Sparrow and restarting again. Still not working. I've raised a ticket with the Sparrow developers and am waiting to see what they say.

Thanks Adrian, the more people reporting this the sooner they will react. Hopefully...

Let us know what you hear, I didn't get a response yet to my update, my ticket is still open. I hope they are on it, at least that's what they told me.

I got a reply from Sparrow Support...

"Thanks for getting in touch with us! We are looking into this with the developers and hope to have some more information soon. We're sorry for any inconveniece this may cause. Please let us know if you have anything to add or more questions regarding this issue."

So, I guess we'll just have to sit it out and hope they fix it soon. :(

That's the same answer I got. Ok so they are on it.. we'll have to wait and see. I'm just a little worried that the priority of this issue is not very high since the acquisition by Google.

Hey guys. If you get the latest Growl update (19th September 2012) from the app store; the bug seems to have been fixed. Growl is connecting with Sparrow again. Yay!

I posted a ticket with Sparrow on 29 Aug (with the same initial response), and still heard nothing (sent a nudge today). I get the feeling that they are concentrating on Google's agenda, rather than supporting their own software.

Anyone else stumbling across this discussion with the same problem should raise a support request (FWIW) at http://sparrowmail.tenderapp.com/discussions/questions#new_topic_form

Not for me! Sparrow is still not registering with Growl 2.0. As far as I remember I also did a restart. Well, I'm gonna re-open my ticket again and again. I think it's a shame that Google bought Sparrow. I knew something like this was going to happen...

Hi Adrian, Was there anything special you had to do to get it going again? Thanks, David

OSX 10.7.5
Growl 2.0
Sparrow 1.6.4

I don't think we are going to see a fix! I reopened my report twice, expressed my disappointment. I just got a "sorry" back. They don't care about their old customers anymore, so yeah, that's it. So much about a once great email client and a good dev team. I wish I hadn't bought it.

I need to get these answers please:

Do you get at least the Mist notification from Sparrow?
Which build of Sparrow is it? (menu Sparrow > About Sparrow)
menu Sparrow > Preferences > General > Notifications > Use notifications
menu Sparrow > Preferences > Accounts > Notifications column, everything checked?
After unregistering from Growl, send yourself an email to get at least a first notification. Does Sparrow come back into the list of registered apps?

Chris

So it appears I was wrong. The notifications still don't work. I got confused because Growl was not running when I got Sparrow notifications. :(

Christopher, in answer to your questions...

  • Do you get at least the Mist notification from Sparrow? - Yes, if Growl is not running.
  • Which build of Sparrow is it? (menu Sparrow > About Sparrow)Version 1.6.4 (1178)
  • menu Sparrow > Preferences > General > Notifications > Use notifications -
  • Inline images 1
  • menu Sparrow > Preferences > Accounts > Notifications column, everything checked?
  • Inline images 2
  • After unregistering from Growl, send yourself an email to get at least a first notification. Does Sparrow come back into the list of registered apps? - no.

I hope this is of use to you.

Thanks,
Adrian

Do you get at least the Mist notification from Sparrow?

Only if I quit the Growl service. If Growl is running, it's apparently recognized by Sparrow because the Mist notifications are gone, but no other notification shows.

Which build of Sparrow is it? (menu Sparrow > About Sparrow)

1.6.4 (1178)

menu Sparrow > Preferences > General > Notifications > Use notifications
menu Sparrow > Preferences > Accounts > Notifications column, everything checked?

All turned on.

After unregistering from Growl, send yourself an email to get at least a first notification. Does Sparrow come back into the list of registered apps?

No, I removed Sparrow from Growl's application list a while ago, it never came back. When it was still in the list, no notifications showed either.
