Growl 1.3 Not working with Thunderbird 8.0 and the icon kept flashing.

Hi I have two problem with Growl 1.3 and can you help me. I am using Mac OS Lion 10.7.2

1. I have uninstalled the old version of Growl under the instructions. And then downloaded Growl 1.3 from App store. After that everything works fine except for Thunderbird 8.0, I cannot get any notifications from it. After searching the forums. Someone said I have to install GrowlMail separately. So I installed GrowlMail 1.3.2. But it's still not working. Can you help me to figure out what's the problem?

2. I got some rollups when my laptop is inactive. After that I found it not so useful. So I turned it off. However, I found the icon of Growl on the menu bar kept flashing.....And I don't know how to stop it....Can you tell how to do this?

Mozilla is aware of the problem, there are Bugzilla reports being
worked on, but I don't have any idea on how long before it is fixed.
