What version of Growl and HardwareGrowler are you using?

Hello, forgive me in advance if I do something wrong in this group. I just came to try and find out how to fix HardwareGrowler, which hasn't been working since I updated my Macbook Pro (late 2008 Unibody with 8 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD) to OS X 10.7.4 a week or two ago.

If I try to use HardwareGrowler, it never runs, and I can see in Activity Monitor and the CPU monitor in iStats that every 30 seconds to a minute (that's how long it feels; I haven't timed it) there's a largish spike in CPU activity for a few seconds as the crashes get logged.

I have attached one of the many crash log files for HardwareGrowler.

I tried installing the update from the App Store, thinking that might fix things, but I was blocked by an error message telling me to sign in to the account that I bought HardwareGrowler with... I tried both my accounts and got the same error. So I uninstalled all of HardwareGrowler in AppZapper, and App Store finally allowed me to install the latest version with no hassle... Except HardwareGrowler still crashes. I'd appreciate any help fixing HardwareGrowler!

Gah! I knew I'd forget something (^_^)

I was using Growl 1.3.1, but I just updated to 1.4 after reading your reply, but HardwareGrowler still crashes. HardwareGrowler is 1.3.2.

Basically what that crash is saying is that it can't load the XPC we
use to communicate with Growl. The reason for this is an invalid code
signature, which due to the nature of the App Store shouldn't be the
case on first install certainly. There are a couple of possible
causes, messing around inside the bundle could mess with its code
signature, or it might be a corrupt install, which could be caused by
a variety of things. Probably the simplest thing to test is to try to
uninstall/reinstall hardwaregrowler from the app store. If you still
have issues, we can investigate further.

I see. In a non-techy sort of way (^_^)

I actually tried deleting and reinstalling HardwareGrowler as I wrote at the start of this topic, and it didn't improve things...

Would uninstalling and then reinstalling both Growl and HardwareGrowler at the same time help?

Odd, ok, its very unlikely Growl has anything to do with this, another
thing to try is a repair permissions.

Just to add to the strangeness, everything suddenly works now!

I guess after enough restarts, the installations of 2 days ago and yesterday finally fixed something, so now everything works. Thanks for listening anyway!

Just to follow up, is this still working?

Thanks very much for asking!

Things were OK for a while, then I noticed last Sunday HardwareGrowler was playing up again and shut it down. I just started it up and it seems OK right now, fingers crossed.

As it turns out, Growl also seems to have buggered up (^_^).

Now I'm getting a whole lot of whatever the attached file (GrowlLauncher) says.

Any help appreciated!
