I sure that's it's very disheartening for the developers of Growl to see such large volumes of negativity for the paid version of what was previously a much lauded and appreciated free app.

Devs, you had a great product, but the fine ideas you had for the app store version just don't seem to be loved. To keep this simple, let me just say I'd still happily pay your price if you killed the rollup and went back to the some of the old ways. Example - one very important reason that Stay on Screen after 30 Seconds was better, is because it was more visual. You could have Mail styles, DropBox styles, Tweet styles and you could know what was going on from across the room. Not so with the rollup.

Think about it - your customers are letting you know what we want.

The amount of people who say they dislike rollup is a lot smaller than the ones who say they like it. 

I would argue that the previous method was far less usable for people who want to review the notifications that came in. I don't think that doing so from 30 feet away was really a consideration. I think that's an edge case. I'm not opposed to trying to work both in, but let's use an example which fits for 80% of users and not edge cases. :)
