MailMe - Is it all built in to Growl?

I see to use MailMe I need to enter my SMTP settings and credentials.
I just want to confirm that Growl has its own mail client built in and that these settings & credentials are not then used by some 3rd party send mail application external to Growl.

It sends directly from Growl via whatever email server you specify.
