Suddenly, today, out of the blue, I'm getting an Growl error message
when I launch certain applications. (So far, QuickCal and Dropbox.)
The message is some version of "The document [app name-(a whole bunch
of numbers and letters).growlRegDict" could not be opened.
GrowlHelperApp cannot open files in the "Document" format."

I'm on Snow Leopard, so I'm using 1.2.2. Nothing on my Mac has changed
since yesterday, when Growl seemed to be working fine...

hmmm…
i remember some people seeing this before.
it sounds like your launch services database may have got a bit messed up.
try rebuilding it?

there are a number of articles about how, e.g.
