Can Growl 1.2.2 talk to Growl 2.0 over the net?

A while back, we established that Growl 1.3 was a protocol incompatible change from v. 1.2.2 and thus a Growl 1.2.2 system can't forward Growl notices over the net to a Growl 1.3 system.  I'm guessing that this continues to Growl 2.0?  Thus, as long as I have a need for my MacOS 10.6 system to send Growl notices over the net, then every other system receiving these on the net must also run Growl 1.2.2.  MacOS 10.6 can't run 1.3 or 2.0 and 1.3 or 2.0 can't receive notices from 1.2.2.

Is all of this correct?

the tcp protocol in 1.3+ is not compatible with the udp protocol in 1.2.2 and below, you are right.

However, you can send notifications from your 10.6 box with a gntp networking library.  http://growl.info/documentation/developer/bindings.php  has a list of them, but there are a lot more.

Thanks for the very clear and fast reply!  I don't have time right now to work on producing my own Growl 2.0 notifications, but maybe I'll look into that at some point.  I really only need a CLI method for sending Growl 2.0 notifications from MacOS 10.6, so maybe that wouldn't be to difficult to implement.

What we all really need is a little server which receives Growl 1.2.2 notifications and re-sends them as Growl 1.3+ notifications.  :)
