Not sure if Apple allows this, but I'd like to have Growl notifications for Time Machine backups.

Next big move I'd want to see happen - Growl needs to be able to send notifications to my iOS devices. Inevitably, when my computer is busy doing something, I'm using an iOS device in the meantime. That probably means making a Growl iOS app, which is fine by me… even if it only receives notifications and alerts me to them.

There's an application that does this already:

(I wrote it.)

There is a plug-in for that called Prowl, with an accompanying app and push-notification service on the iOS side.

This works, but the framework included is old, update it to 1.2.2 and the app works.

The app itself is old. :-)

Thanks for pointing this out; I'll whip up a new release with 1.2.2 included.

Done. TimeMachineGrowler 1.0.2 uses Growl.framework 1.2.2 and thus should work with Growl 1.3.

I still only see 1.0.1zip on the page.

Never mind it showed up after I sent the note.

Reload. I didn't send the message until after I'd verified that the page had 1.0.2.

Regarding the ability to seed Growl notifications to your iOS device,
you should check out Prowl - http://www.prowlapp.com/ - it does
exactly what you are requesting. I have been using it for the last
year and it works great. Just install the Prowl plugin and Growl and
download the app from your iphone or ipad. I currently have
Transmission ping my phone when a download completes. Very slick.

Also, the Time Capsule app is great. Would there be a way to integrate
this code into HardwareGrowler to avoid the need to have two apps
running?

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Peter, I hadn't seen your app before - I'll definitely check that out. I expect I could have googled that answer rather than bother everyone here.

As for Prowl (and Howl), I had looked at it in the App Store but was disappointed and thrown off when I noticed it costs more than Growl itself.  Prowl sounds like what I am looking for, but the price makes it look like a scam. I understand from the reviews that Howl isn't worth looking into… and is currently the same price.

Prowl has been around for a while and is produced by someone else (Howl came after, and is produced by yet another person as far as I'm aware).

Zac has been pretty responsive with making sure that Prowl keeps in lock step with both Growl and iOS updates. I can't say much about Howl since I haven't used it though.
