There needs to be an option to exclude applications from showing up on
the notification rollup while away from the computer.

A good example of why this is needed is notifications sent by music
players. While i like to have a notification of what music is playing
when i'm at the computer, its just noise preventing me from finding
important notification when return to my computer after being away for
a while with music still playing.

go to the application settings page in growl, select your app->configure, go to the desired notification, uncheck the Logging tick box.
go to the general pane, and set 'rollup only logged notes'

We're also looking into adding a per application setting for the same thing. Would this solve the problem for you entirely?

May I suggest something better? Replace the notification rollup with a numbered list of all the missed notifications on the Growl menu bar icon. When clicked, the number disappears.

I wouldn't find that very useful. But maybe I'm not seeing it how you mean it when you explain it. If you have some artistic ability and can mock it up, that'd probably be helpful.

Ya ok, now I get it. :)

Let me think on it.

I have attached what I am talking about. On the left next to the calendar, you can see the number 10, which represent the number of unread/upcoming events. When you click it, those 10 unread/upcoming events show in the menu. I think it would be useful to have something similar for Growl (maybe not through text but something graphically instead).

When I click growl, I see the most recent notifications, but I think it would be better to display number of unread on the outside instead of having the rollup notification.

I just think it's a better way to display the information rather than the obtrusive rollup notification.

I have attached what I am talking about. On the left, next to the calendar, you can see the number 10, which represents the number of unread/upcoming events. When clicked, those 10 unread/upcoming events show in the menu. I think Growl would benefit from such a system (maybe not through text but something graphically instead).

When I click growl, I see the most recent notifications, but it would be better to display the unread notification number on the outside and then show the content of the notification only when the icon is clicked. On click, the number can disappear.

Please what is a "rollup?" It is difficult to know what to do with
"rollup" preferences absent this information.

I'd like something a bit more granular.  I'd like to say which notifications I'd like rolled up or not for a specific application.

For example, for an instant message client (like Adium), I want Growl notifications for:

user signed on
user signed off
message received

But I only want message received notifications rolled up.

Thanks.  Oh, and btw, I think Growl is a fantastic app.  It and Skitch are what I consider flagship OS X apps that I tell people they can't live without.  Keep up the good work.  :)

You can do this currently, by setting rollup to only include logged notifications, then disabling logging for the applications/events you don't want to appear in rollup.
I posted more detailed instructions on here at some point relatively recently. Can't find them on my phone right now...
