Hello,

Happened to me too last night when I applied the last Security Update from Apple. It included Mail 4.6.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

That update changed QuickTime Player.app, Mail.app and App Store.app

Mail not reports version and build "Version 4.6 (1085)". Sorry, didn't note what was the previous build number running fine with GrowlMail 1.2.5

After rebooting, I got a pop-up saying that "Incompatible Plug-ins Disabled: GrowlMail", then "Contact the makers of these plug-ins for versions that are compatible with Mail 4.6 and Messages 4.6.".

Of course I downloaded and (re) installed 1.2.5 .. but it got kicked away the same.

Here is what's showing in my syslog. Reading it, it looks like the issue boils down to a compatibility list of UUIDs of supported versions. If it's the case, I presume it can easily be fixed.

I hope so.

Thanks a lot if you can fix it.

Sep 26 23:19:59 california Mail[1666]: Plugin compatibility check failed for GrowlMail.mailbundle. The plugin's Info.plist must have a SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs key whose value is an array of strings that contains the compatibility UUIDs for the supported versions of the Mail application and Message framework. The compatibility UUID values are found in the PluginCompatibilityUUID key of their respective Info.plists

OK !!!

I'VE FIXED IT !

All ... the solution is simple :

Quit Mail first

 a/ Reinstall GrowlMail 1.2.5
 b/ Open your home directory ~/Library/Mail/Bundle/ folder
 c/ Locate inside the GrowlMail.mailbundle/Contents folder
 d/ Double-click on Info.plist to open it in the Property List Editor
 e/ Locate the  line SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs and select it
 f/ Click on Add Child and enter that exact string as "item 0"  064442B6-53C0-4A97-B71B-2F111AE4195B
 g/ Click again on Add Child and enter that other string as "item 0" (the one above has become "item 1" 588FF7D1-4310-4175-9980-145B7E975C02
 h/ Save and quit the Property List Editor

Open Mail ..

... Works !  (well ... now I got to wait that someone sends me a mail to see if indeed GrowlMail will notify me of it!  Still GrowlMail Preferences show up in the panel)

Please, post an update of GrowlMail-1.2.5.zip with the two new PluginCompatibilityUUIDs to match with Mail.app and Message.framework UUIDs recently upgraded by Apple's last Security Fix.

                <string>588FF7D1-4310-4175-9980-145B7E975C02</string>    <!-- Message.framework -->
                <string>064442B6-53C0-4A97-B71B-2F111AE4195B</string>    <!-- Mail.app -->

Cheers,
Thierry

GrowlMail is no longer supported by us, see http://growl.info/growlmail for more information.

It doesn't work for me even though I have made the changes as described via the texteditor. The plugin does not get disabled by mail anymore, but the notification of a new mail is still not visible upon receiving a new email..

Im on SnowLeopard 10.6.8 and mail 4.6 (1085).

Have you got a fix for this?

I think the GrowlMail folks have an app that you can run that fixes the UUID without you having to go dig into it all the time.

Thanks for the fix, TVNshack!    Works like a charm, cheers to you!

One mistake I made:   after making the changes you suggested, I tested it out by sending myself an email but didn't see any Growl notification appear.   Then I realized that in Mail preferences,  "Only notify when Mail.app is in the background" was checked, and I was doing my test while the Mail app was the active window.   After unchecking that option, I retested and it worked perfect.   Of course I could also have kept that option checked and just tested with Mail in the background for proof that it was working again.
