So, to start off with, Apps must support Growl in some manner or
another. They do this by using our framework or other means to
register and send notifications. Firefox in recent versions has
dropped all pretense of supporting Growl, not that they did a good job
of it in the first place. As an option, this addon:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/growlgntp/ can talk to
Growl, and should support at least things like file downloads and
such. As for other apps, here is a sampling of configuration examples
for various popular apps:
http://growl.info/documentation/appconfigs/,
and while not exhaustive by any means, apps not listed there often
follow similar lines. If you still are having issues with other apps,
feel free to list what apps you are having trouble with, and we will
do our best to help you get them working.
