I used the growl uninstaller to remove the older growl, then bought 1.3.1 in the app store.  I see it in my menu and have tested that it "works" using GrowlNotify.  I Have OS X 1.7.2.

I use Mozilla's EarlyBird (Thunderbird) and Aurora (Firefox) releases.  Neither one now seems to use Growl.  I also use Adium and don't believe its notifications are reaching Growl, either.  Has Grown become incompatible, or do I in some way need to get these apps to re-register with Growl?

For the mozilla applications, try installing Growl 1.2.2, getting Firefox and Thunderbird to register, and then removing Growl 1.2.2. Then start up Growl 1.3.1.

Adium should work fine with Growl 1.3.1.

Thanks, Chris.  I think I've done as you suggest, but got no love.  Growl 1.31 is, except for Adium and Less, broken for me.  Few apps that used to work, work.  I don't so much care about the $2 but rather the time I've spent working through this.  It's obvious from the posts to this group that I'm not alone. In any case, I'm sure it'll sort itself out in time.

Here's the steps I've followed with a chronology, from the beginning:

* Buy 1.31
* Uninstall 1.22 with the uninstaller

With those done, most apps do not growl.

* Write to discussion group, mostly follow your advice.
* Remove 1.31 (that's not exactly what you said to do ;-)
* Download, install 1.22

That makes firefox 10a2 (Aurora) work *and* appear in Growl's list of registered apps.  Thunderbird (either 10a2 or 8) will absolutely not register now, and do not appear in Growl's list of apps.  Moreover, neither Firefox *nor* Thunrderbird appear in Growl Version Detecter (1.2.1).

* Open App Store to reinstall Growl 1.31.  It won't.  The Install option notes that 1.22 is installed, and prompts me to buy 1.31.
* Close App Store, uninstall 1.22 with Growl Uninstaller.
* Open App Store, find Growl, wait, Install now installs Growl without a prompt to buy.

Firefox still listed in prefpane registered apps, but still not showing in Growl version detector and now doesn't actually Growl.

In sum:
* Apps that used to growl but now don't: Spotify, Transmit, Thunderbird (Earlybird), Firefox (Aurora), Coda.
* Apps that do growl: Adium, Less.

Firefox and Thunderbird are being worked on by the Mozilla team as
there were bugs reports submitted. They mentioned maybe in version
11, but I am hoping sooner. If anyone has any newer info I would love
to hear about it.
