Odd, if its listed in Growl, and you have it set to use Growl in
Twitter's preferences, it should be working. The upgrade button in
GVD is grayed out because we don't have permission to write to the
app's bundle. GVD tries to leave app store apps alone as they are
signed and installed as a different user, and while it should be safe
to upgrade it manually, GVD is set more cautious.
Try quitting twitter, deleting its registration in Growl's
applications list (just select twitter in the list and hit the delete
key), and then relaunch twitter. This will make sure it is
registering properly, and that there isn't something wrong with how we
stored the registration.
If it still isn't working (I don't know why it wouldn't, the last
version of
twitter.app from the app store is working fine for me
without upgrading), you can try upgrading the framework manually.
Quit twitter. Right click on Twitter.app in finder, click show
package contents, then navigte into Twitter.app/Contents/Frameworks
and then replace the Growl.framework with the one from SDK (http://
growl.info/downloads, and grab the 2.0.1 SDK).
