Hello,

I have a new MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.2 and did a clean install of
the operating system.

I recently installed a handful of third-party application, including
Growl 1.2, and realized that the computer would no longer go to sleep
as scheduled in the Energy Saver Preferences. If I select "Sleep" from
the Apple menu or close the notebook it sleeps fine.

I called AppleCare and spent an hour on the phone with a senior tech
support agent trouble shooting the issue. Upon looking at the
processes running in Activity Monitor, he suggested closing Growl,
because according to him it has a history of interfering with the
scheduled sleep function for Macs. I turned Growl off and the computer
went to sleep fine.

Is this a problem you are aware of, or something you are looking to
fix? I'd love keep Growl running, but even more prefer for my computer
to sleep on its own.

Best, J

We're not aware of this. I wish applecare would file tickets with us
when they say this. :)

So let's start with the basics. What version of Growl?

How did you shut it off?

What other applications did you install at the same time as Growl?

I occasionally get this problem, but can't say it is a regular thing -
or that it is definitely Growl.

It's usually when I close the lid on my MBP that it refuses to sleep
properly.

I have a bunch of stuff that uses Growl installed. Difficult to say
what I installed alongside it.
