You cant register applications manually. applications that support
Growl for Windows will register themselves.

Is there a specific program or programs that you are hoping to use
with Growl for Windows? if so, we can help you get them configured if
you let us know what they are.

Thanks for your help Brian.
I don't understand because on the growl's help I read applications are
automatically integrated, but this feature doesn't work for me. I have
Pidgin, Spotify, Skype, Yammer, an Iphone, windows live mail, and
would like to received notification for all of them. I have tried to
uninstall and reinstall Growl, and even Spotify as a test, but I have
allways the same empty screen in applications tab...

Thanks again :)

applications are not automatically *integrated* with Growl, they are
automatically *registered* with Growl - but only if the application
supports Growl. each application has to support Growl and tell Growl
it wants to register and send notifications.

as far as i know, Spotify does not support Growl for Windows. of the
apps you listed, Pidgin and Skype can be configured to send
notifications through Growl for Windows, though they need additional
plugins. see this page: http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/apps.aspx -
scroll down to find each app and click the links to see what is needed
to configure them to work with Growl.

If the app supports Growl, then it will automatically register itself. For apps that dont natively support Growl, sometimes there are addons, plugins, extensions, etc that add Growl capabilities. In the case of Outlook and iTunes, neither Microsoft nor Apple has added native Growl support yet, so these apps require an addon. If you go to the Applications section of the GfW website (http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/apps.aspx) you can find the programs you use and see where/how to install the necessary add-ons. Once you do that, then the add has essentially had Growl support bolted on, and it will then register itself (technically, the add-on will automatically register the app).

System Monitor *does* have Growl support built-in natively, so I am not sure why it is not showing up for you. You do have to launch the app while Growl is running in order for it to register, but otherwise it should 'just work'. If it isnt, there is some logging you can enable that might help diagnose the issue, but lets start here for now.

Within these posts there are references to applications being "automatically registered" with Growl IF the application supports Growl. On the www.growlforwindows.com web site it shows a screen shot with the Application Name window filled with applications, including Outlook, iTunes and System Monitor. Because I have all three of these and, yet, have nothing listed in my Applications window, it doesn't appear to "automatically" do anything.  What am I missing? There is no place to "add" an application so how does this app actually work?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

You can follow the steps outlined at this link (http://groups.google.com/group/growl-for-windows/browse_thread/thread/1c17687b801efff0/038d1645921177c3?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=enable+logging#038d1645921177c3) to enable some logging in Growl. Then we can see if the Outlook add-in is sending the notifications to Growl at all. If it is, then the issue is with Growl or the preferences, but more likely, the issue is with the Outlook add-in. Which version of Outlook are you using?

Look in Outlook at the menu and see if there is a new menu item called 'Add-In Tasks' just to the left of the Help menu. If it is there, you can click it and then 'Growl Notification Settings' to make sure the plug-in installed correctly. If the menu item is not there, you can try reading through this thread (http://groups.google.com/group/growl-for-windows/browse_thread/thread/b2955a1d0158ddc7/bc00fa535bebbe84?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=vsto#bc00fa535bebbe84) to see if any of the suggestions there work for you.

The Outlook plugin requires some additional binaries (VSTO SE) that are supposed to be installed when you install the add-in. i have heard reports that it doesnt always work for folks using Office 2007 and that manually installing them fixes the issue. You can download those binaries from Microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22327

*WHEN* will the applications get around to registering? I've had Growl running for two days waiting for the magic to happen.

Crazy idea: Add a button to Growl / Applications [FIND APPLICATIONS AND ASK THEM TO REGISTER and send a note to the developers to remind them to design a version of Growl that works *INTUITIVELY* ]

Growl cannot register the applications - it doesn't know what types of notifications the app will be sending. The applications have to register themselves with Growl. Apps usually do this when they are launched (assuming Growl is already running), but some do it on-demand when a notification event is triggered.

If you have had Growl running and have since launched and used applications that should be working with Growl, please post up which application(s) are not registering so we can investigate. Some applications require an add-on or plug-in in order to talk to Growl.

An idea would be for Growl to send a "growl_launched" registered message.  Applications could listen for that and then register.  Snarl does that I think and it does avoid the "will it, won't it" issue.
