Although we have gone through many tests in the schools there are many types of tests waiting in our life after we left the school text forever. We all have learned that the open-book tests are not any easier than the closed-book ones. I once executed a special final-examination in college by asking the students to answer the essay questions they each derived from the textbooks. They admitted that was the most difficult final they ever had. This sounds like a paragraph in a graduation address. ,
Some teachers give tests that have been repeated over the years while others keep the tests unpredictable. What kinds of teachers give easy tests and what kinds do the other ways?
I tend to believe that our God would not give us tough test but allowing the devils to test us severely sometimes almost beyond our capacity and tolerance. A lot of times we actually lead ourselves into tests. Practically, the motives of God are not a researchable subject which is not worth-discussing. It will be like the story of the 10 blind me, if tried. We can only deal with the facts that we have gone through and perhaps survive or simply win over the innumerable test. (Some people win but die or win by dying).
What’s the point in this sermon we will hear today? The Mandarin and the Taiwanese in our thinking mind could not help us enough comparing with the English words in this case. This is one reason that we need a church of multiple languages. In English “believe” and “trust” are distinguished while in Mandarin the difference is not always clearly expressed.

The hymn we will study today is an ambiguous one. The ambiguity
provides us rooms for imagination and individualized interpretation. The simpler
the music/lyrics the more profound and challenging it is.
