Trimming my post
Back
in the days I had to manage an outdoor pool, we had a roll-up pool
cover.
This
bubble pack type material would roll up and in the sun, each inner layer would
get increasingly hotter.
The
middle of the roll could melt the plastic if you left it out in the sun. Which
you were not advised to do.
Using
a pool cover or large roll of bubble pack on the tunnel in winter might keep
more heat.
I
think a cold frame inside the tunnel, moved from outside use in the fall, would
increase the temp on the soil.
The
light will change slightly, but the collection and insulating factor would
increase the ambient temp in the box.
Today
our unheated porch is 75 degrees, its 20 degrees in the shade outside. The porch
is usually 30-40 degrees warmer than the outside.
Thermal mass would help buffer the changes but if I added another
layer of glass or plastic I am sure the temp would rise even more.
Double
layer tunnels are much more efficient at collecting and keeping heat. If you
drop down a divider sheet down the middle of the tunnel, I think the air temp
would increase due to the decrease volume of air being heated. Even better would
be a black curtain assuming the length faces the south.
