Mocks as a discovery tool for developing Erlang/BEAM applications

I know Erlang has been mentioned on the list a number of times as a design reference for OO/FP. I am currently getting my feet wet with Elixir and would like to adopt GOOS-style discovery testing with mocks (assuming this is appropriate). I currently have O'Reilly Erlang on my reading list, but was wondering if anyone has concrete example or discussions they can point me to or opinions they would like to share on this approach for BEAM applications.
