Growing Green Hands Calendar of Events
We are excited to share our upcoming events with you.
Please note that our first Mentor Orientation is scheduled on November
22nd.

Description of Events:
Mentor Orientations- These seminars are Q&A meetings for all adults
interested in learning more about our program. We will describe all
of the elements of our programming and our educational curriculum, as
well as the various ways individuals can support-collaborate- and/or
receive services from our program. Some older adults may choose to
send a representative to check out the program to see if this program
meets their needs and/or interests.

Mentee Orientations- These seminars are Q&A meetings for youth (8 to
17 yr) and/or their parents/caregivers who are interested in learning
more about our program. We will describe all of the elements of our
programming and our educational curriculum, as well as the various
ways individuals can support-collaborate- and/or receive services from
our program.

Mentor Trainings- Training is a requirement of the program. After the
initial application and an interview are completed, potential mentors
will schedule Live Scan appointments to give their fingerprints for a
complete DOJ background check. Training begins while we await the
results of the Live Scan. There will be a total of 6 two-hour
trainings provided to potential mentors. Training will also provide
staff with time to know our volunteer mentor’s needs/interests, and
assess his/her capacity to work with a particular age group or other
personality characteristics of the youth in our program for matching
purposes.

Mentee Trainings- Preparing youth to be in a mentor-mentee
relationship involves teaching youth the basic interpersonal
relational skills of working with and appreciating older adults.
Training will also provide staff with time to know our youth mentee’s
needs/interests, and assess his/her capacity to be in relationship
work with particular personality characteristics of the older adults
in our program.

Mentor-Mentee Family Day- This a time for the mentor and the mentee,
along with the mentee’s family to gather for fellowship. We will
provide refreshments and some fun “ice breaker” activities to support
community.

Group Mentoring- Group events are for mentors, mentees, and other
interested program supporters to gather for fun activities, and
educational presentations by GGH staff and other community partners.
Each group meeting will also provide mentor/mentee pairs with “break-
away” time (individualized attention) from GGH staff to assist them
with their relationship needs and/or planning their own individual
activities. The “group” meetings will also allow GGH staff to update
all participants on all GGH activities, including learning service
opportunities. Group meetings will allow all participants to hear
from one another and gain collective encouragement from all other GGH
participants and supporters.

Mentor Support Meeting- This meeting will offer Mentors a chance to
meet with GGH staff to discuss their experience with their mentee,
addressing challenges and celebrating their successes. Training needs
will be assessed and Mentors will have an opportunity to participate
in programming updates.
