Open GFA Steering Committee Meeting
Everyone is invited to the monthly meeting of the Grow Food Amherst Open Steering Committee.  This is where we plan our events and choose our next project.  We meet in the Amherst Town Hall from 12:00noon -  1:30pm. For the agenda, see: GFA Open Steering Committee on April 10.

Gardening 101 - Getting Started Growing Vegetables and Herbs in Amherst
Offered by Grow Food Amherst in cooperation with the Master Gardeners of Western Massachusetts
Thursday April 18; 7:00pm-9:00pm
Amherst Town Hall
Everyone is Welcome - Free!

Learn how to get started selecting a site, preparing the soil, planting and basic garden care, including container gardens, raised beds and lasagna gardens. Also free soil tests!  Other topics include:
  • How to start a garden cheaply and easily
  • How to get the most out of your garden space
  • Getting help deciding which vegetables to grow in your garden
  • Deciding when, where and how to plant
  • The secret of mulch

Amherst Sustainability Fesitval
Grow Food Amherst will have a table display at the Amherst Sustainability Festival.  We could use a few volunteers to greet people and share your enthusiasm for growing food!  If you are willing to sign up for a 2-hour shift please sign up here:  Volunteer Sign-up.  We will contact you with instructions prior to the event.  Thanks for your help!

Outdoor Living Classroom Gardening Workshop at the UMass Permaculture Garden
Grow Food Amherst is partnering with the UMass Sustainability Initiative to offer an Outdoor Living Classroom at the UMass Permaculture Garden!  Get your hands dirty and celebrate spring!  Come with your gardening questions to UMass Permaculture Franklin Garden (in front of Franklin Dining Common at UMass) Various stations with demonstrations and interactive workshops on compost, seeding and transplanting, sheet mulching and more!  All ages welcome.
