I would prefer something OTHER than documentaries. I would prefer movies not only set in some African country but also about a local theme and directed and played by people from the country. But I will take what I can get.
You will see below that a search using simply the word "africa" on Netflix returns African Movies as well as a lot of other links. Likewise, a search for "international" turns up International Movies as well as other links.
Original star of The Chronicles of Narnia movies William Moseley has addressed his potential return to the fantasy franchise in Greta Gerwig's upcoming adaptation for Netflix. The upcoming movie is set to be based on the book series by C.S. Lewis, exploring a fantastical world that exists in parallel to our own. Three books in the series, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, were all made into theatrical films, with Moseley portraying major character Peter Pevensie.
Speaking with Screen Rant about his upcoming movie Murder Company, Moseley said that, given the chance, he would return for Gerwig's upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia reboot adaptation. However, the actor explained that, given the finality of his role in Prince Caspian, he doesn't think he'll be asked to come back to the franchise. Check out what Moseley had to say below:
"Yes," is the short answer. If I was asked, I would go in a heartbeat. But I have to remind you of one line from the books and the movies. I think Aslan says it. "Your time here now is done. Your time is finished." I remember when I shot that scene in Prince Caspian, it was a sad scene to shoot, but I understood then when Aslan said that to those characters, that when that script is written for me, my time is done. And that's the way it is. If I might ever get asked that, great, but I don't think it's there.
Moseley's time in the franchise came to an end during Prince Caspian, but he still made a cameo appearance during The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The actor has a clear connection to the franchise because of the character he portrayed, making his return possible should Gerwig decide to bring him and other alums of the franchise back. However, since The Chronicles of Narnia cast is much older than they were when the original movies came out, there would need to be a significant change in how they appear.
One possibility for Moseley to return is to portray a different character in the franchise, perhaps someone who is older than the Pevensie siblings in the original story. This could be anyone from Mr. Tumnus to Aslan himself, providing the actor with a significant role in the franchise while keeping him from retreading a prior story. He could also have a smaller part to play, appearing in a cameo as a background character as a small nod to the original movie trilogy.
While it's unclear if Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation will bring back actors from the series' past, Moseley's interest opens the door for other potential returnees to address the remakes. Perhaps Gerwig will take such sentiments to heart and deliver surprise roles for the original stars of the movies. For now, though, it appears Netflix's adaptation will be an entirely clean slate for the franchise, making it impossible to predict what will happen when the new movies arrive on the streaming platform.
The Chronicles of Narnia franchise is getting rebooted. While the new movie will be unconnected to the previous big-screen adaptations, one of the original stars has expressed interest in returning for Netflix and Greta Gerwig's take on C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy world.
First published between 1950 and 1956, The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven high fantasy children's novels by Lewis that primarily follow the adventures of a group of children from the real world who are transported to the magical realm of Narnia, which is populated by talking animals and mythical beasts and overseen by the Christ-like lion Aslan.
After plans to adapt the fourth novel, The Silver Chair, fell apart, Netflix signed a multi-year agreement in 2018 with The C.S. Lewis Company to develop films and television series based on all seven Narnia novels. Gerwig's involvement with the reboot was announced in July 2023, with the director stating later that same month that she was "scared" of helming Netflix's Narnia movies. However, fans should not be worried by Gerwig's comments as she would go on to explain that "when I'm scared, it's always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it'll be like, 'Okay. Maybe I shouldn't do that one.' No, I'm terrified of it. It's extraordinary. And so we'll see, I don't know."
The toughest remake will be The Good Earth, Paul Muni and Luise Rainer, westerners who played old traditional Chinese. No westerner could have pulled it off except for Muni and Rainer. The current hollywood actors are talentless hacks.
The fact that the writer believes that the Narnia he talks about is the original Narnia live action. I mean it's a live action reboot sure but he clearly has not seen the original bbc movies ( which have more of the books in movie form) and animated movie.
The hard part would be if she does the time in between movies or the time between the end of the war in the first movie then the time skip of when they are older and go home. As there will be diffrent actors and that can turn people off of a show.
Red Netflix envelopes sit in a bin of mail at the U.S. Post Office sort center March 30, 2010 in San Francisco, California. The company is ending its DVD mailing service with a promotion. Justin Sullivan/Getty Images hide caption
"Netflix is doing everything that they can to help people watch as many films that are in their queue as possible before the shutdown," said Long, a self-described film buff in North Carolina who told NPR there are 500 movies in his queue right now.
An FAQ section on Netflix's website states the company will accept returns through Oct. 27. But Netflix's promotional email doesn't explicitly tell customers what to do with those discs. This is causing confusion among customers, and debate among the members of online communities like Reddit.
"It appeared to me that at the end of their time shipping these DVDs out that they're yours to keep," North Carolina-based Netflix DVD subscriber Leslie Lowdermilk told NPR. "Because after all, what are they gonna do with them?"
"The filmmakers and property rights owners give Netflix a license, and then they can sub-license it to their subscribers," Spiller said. "But they can't give anybody ownership. They don't have it themselves."
"They really should have made it clear whether this was a rental and what the return period is, versus whether people were getting to hold onto these things," Gerbi said. "I do hope that perhaps they could find a way to get them into viewers' hands permanently, or maybe get them into libraries or someplace where they're not just going to waste."
Per The Wrap, Back in Action will make its Netflix premiere on Nov. 15. The streaming service released Back in Action's first teaser in February to build anticipation for the movie, which marks Diaz's first feature-length appearance since 2014's Annie. Netflix also debuted new images of Back in Action, seeing Foxx and Diaz running for cover and tending to someone's aid in the middle of a winter setting.
Back in Action chronicles Foxx and Diaz's respective characters, Matt and Emily, former CIA agents living a comfortable home life after giving up the world of espionage to spend time with their family. However, when their cover is blown, the duo is forced to return to their former life. Baywatch director Seth Gordon helmed and co-wrote Back in Action, while Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler and Andrew Scott also headline the cast.
Diaz walked away from Hollywood in 2014 to spend time with her family before announcing she would return to the big screen in 2022 for Back in Action after being persuaded by Foxx. Filming took place from December 2022 to April of last year. However, principal photography was marred by rumors of diva behavior on the set by Foxx, which Diaz categorically denied. Things were further complicated last April when Foxx suffered a serious and undisclosed health scare, leading to Back in Action using body doubles in Foxx's place to shoot the remainder of his scenes. Foxx has since made a full recovery.
Foxx's most recent big-screen appearance was in the comedy film, Not Another Church Movie, a parody of Tyler Perry's films. Released on May 10, the film sees the Academy Award and Grammy winner portray God opposite Mickey Rourke, Kyla Pratt, Vivica A. Fox and Jasmine Guy. Foxx is also returning to work on the upcoming season of the musical game show, Beat Shazam.
Meanwhile, Diaz is known for classic movies such as There's Something About Mary, Charlie's Angels, Being John Malkovich and the Shrek franchise. She is also filming the black comedy film, Outcome, which stars Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill, who also directs and produces the project.
Netflix's 2024 roster of titles may have already seen the return of fan-favorite shows like The Circle Season 6, Bridgerton Season 3, and Vikings: Valhalla Season 3, but several other hit originals are poised to stay off the screen for a bit longer. Following years-long waits, fans of titles including Stranger Things, Wednesday, and more are in for more disappointment, as some of Netflix's most popular shows are not set to return until 2025.
Fans last traveled to Hawkins, Indiana when Stranger Things Season 4 wrapped in June 2022, and while the series has consistently been one of Netflix's biggest performers, it isn't set to hit screens anytime soon. The show was among dozens impacted by the Hollywood strikes over the summer, and although it was originally slated to start filming in May 2023, production did not actually start until January of this year. As a result, Stranger Things Season 5 now isn't set to premiere until sometime next year, Netflix's co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed in an earnings call this week, meaning that there will be a three-year gap between seasons.
