Did you know that you can create a Wish List via our website? Anyone can do it, and then send their wish list to friends and family (ie "Jack Kerouac's Christmas gift wish list"). It's a perfect way for local teachers and school librarians to request books for their classrooms and libraries! Unfortunately, these folks often don't have enough funding or budget to purchase books they find important for their students. This is where we can all help!

Educators, once you've created a list, and shared it with your group of supporters, let us know by sending an email to regulato...@gmail.com to give us a heads up (and same if you have any questions), and we'll hold onto your books as they come into the shop. Then you can arrange to pick them up at a time that works best for you!

Zoom book clubs will be the new norm for a while. Not all bad as you get to sit in the comfort of your own home, with your favorite elixir and your pet at your side.

If you have an on-going book club or are thinking of starting one, we can help you facilitate that with our online book club registry. Here is how it works:

You can now add books to a "Wish List" to save them for later (or so your family and friends can purchase them for you). To get started, log in to your account, search for a book, and click "Add to Wish List." You can even email your list to people (from the "Wish List" tab under "My Account"), for a not-so-subtle hint.

We embrace all current teachers & students (kindergarten through grad school, as well as homeschool). We offer all students & teachers 10% on most titles (inclusive most special orders). Also, ask us about our additional discounts for in-class book purchases and for bulk school orders!

We read a lot and are happy to share our book club favorites with you! You can request a personalized list or find our book club favorites. Interested in finding a book club? We have in-branch and virtual options, from romance to banned books. If you can't find what you are looking for, please email your local branch and they can better assist you.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library also offers book club kits, which allow you to check out a set of 10 books of the same title. You can browse titles and reserve a kit via the button below or call your local branch to place a request. Matthews and Steele Creek now also have browsable book club kits you can check out on the spot! Book club kits can be borrowed for six weeks and may not be renewed. Kits must be returned to a library location during operating hours, since they cannot be returned in a book drop. Patrons may contact their local branch via email or phone, listed on each location page, to request a title be added to their collections. Staff will submit your request to our central collection development office for review.

We are unable to add used items to the collection, so we cannot purchase books and DVDs that are out of print. Even if online sellers show a title as available, that does not necessarily mean the book is still in print. If a title is out of print you can try to request via Interlibrary Loan.

The Library generally orders new releases no more than 3 months before they are scheduled to be published. We will make a note of any requests made further out, but you won't see the order in the catalog until closer to release day.

An increasing number of popular new titles are not offered for sale to libraries. This includes many Audible originals, any Amazon Publishing title in ebook (though we can and do buy those in print), and many self-published titles. Note that for technical and legal reasons, libraries must purchase library-specific ebook and e-audio licenses, and these can only come from library vendors. Books that are only available via Amazon are rarely available to libraries for purchase, and cannot even be added to the collection if donated.

buku is a command-line manager for your bookmark, which can be seen as a personal textual mini-web according to the author. It allows to look for tags or keywords easily and can help you manage large amount of bookmarks. Data is stored on a local database but can easily be exported to the text format.
