The RFTS from VIAVI, Optical Network Management System (ONMSi), increases workforce productivity and facilitates the management of fiber optic networks with fewer technicians through fiber remote testing and accurate fiber plant documentation. The system accurately detects and locates fiber degradation, alerting operators and managers with the details of faults. Measurement schedules allow network operators to assess long-term fiber performance to form the basis of efficient asset management. Find more RFTS and fiber monitoring products and resources.

RFTS stands for "Remote Fiber Test System" which is a centralized system that combines strategically placed fiber optic test heads in key network locations to constantly sweep the fiber with an OTDR test signal to identify and locate fiber faults and degradations. The RFTS can switch across the fiber plant and/or test on demand. On-demand test use cases include construction verification and post-repair verification after a fiber break.

Fiber degradation where fibers are becoming crushed or bent and signal impairment is a result. No outage will be present yet, but performance issues can arise. Because connectors are the number one issue affecting fiber plants, a dirty, damaged, or disconnected connector can be seen using the RFTS OTDR. Other on-demand use cases include switching the OTDR to a specific DWDM wavelength and conducting a troubleshooting test to see if there is a fiber problem vs. an active element problem where the OLT or ONT/ONU might not be performing to standard.

VIAVI Network Assurance and Data Analytics Systems are either server or cloud based. VIAVI Services assist customers with QuickStart system and process implementation and ongoing maintenance of these systems.

This course presents a detailed overview of the features of the ONMSi Remote Fiber Test System that uses OTDR and switch technology along with access via a mobile app or laptop to enable remote OTDR test for fiber faults and construction certification, service activation and monitoring. ONMSi can be used in a hybrid network, PON network, or a CWDM/DWDM P2P network. This course will help you in the planning process for process implementation and is recommend for the lead project team and or managers of any network domain around the time of installation and commissioning of the system.

This course presents a detailed overview of the features of the ONMSi Remote Fiber Test System that uses OTDR and switch technology along with access via a mobile app or laptop to enable remote OTDR test for fiber faults and construction certification, service activation and monitoring. ONMSi can be used in a residential PON network. Note the system can be applied for a converged / hybrid PON and CWDM/DWDM P2P network, as such we can tailor this to your use case. Technicians and field operations engineers, NOC engineers are the primary users of the system for construction test, service activation and troubleshooting. This course is geared for these audiences and their managers.

Network Architecture overview
We will review PON topology, including the elements in the network, and splitter ratio impact on signal power level, loss, and limitation of what can be seen in various architectures. This can be made specific to your architectures for GPON/EPON, XGS-PON, 25G, etc.

This course is designed for system administrators using ONMSi RFTS for PON network test and monitoring. It presents a detailed overview of the features of the ONMSi Remote Fiber Test System that uses OTDR and switch technology along with access via a mobile app or laptop to enable remote OTDR test for fiber faults and construction certification, service activation and monitoring. You will learn to support a team using the system, maintain the system and utilize functionality such as setting alarm/pass/fail thresholds and reporting.

We selected VIAVI innovations in remote fiber monitoring to help us accelerate our 5G network build, while ensuring that we continue to deliver great experiences for our existing customers in a consistent and reliable way.

On September 9th Anne Amie Vineyards will be partnering with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) to host our annual stargazing event, Planets & Pinot!
The informative folks at OMSI will be setting up several of their most powerful mobile telescopes for guests to have the opportunity to gaze at planets, stars and other celestial sights all while enjoying the evening and sipping wine!

Starting at 8:15pm, knowledgeable OMSI volunteers will lead an informative presentation preparing guests on what will be visible in our spectacular night sky with the telescopes available shortly thereafter.

The University of Alabama Department of Geography and the Alabama Museum of Natural History are partnering to plan, design, and prototype the Discovery Learning Lab, which will give middle and high school-aged students access to "geek" mentors who will guide them in explorations of digital technologies not readily available at home or school. Goals for the project include creating formal partnerships with representatives from the entire spectrum of the local education community, planning and designing a space that will allow participants ways to connect with each other and their mentors, providing opportunities for autonomous explorations as well as structured programs, and exposing teens to STEM disciplines, skills, activities, and software at the lab and in a cyberspace environment.

Pima County Public Library (PCPL) will plan three unique media spaces to serve middle and high school youth throughout the 9,189-square-mile expanse of Pima County. Serving urban, suburban, and rural communities, the library plans to address the diverse needs of Pima County youth through a mobile media lab, a youth media space in downtown Tucson, and an online community. The planning process will bring together a leadership team of partners with a deep history of youth media programming along with established teen groups that already meet at the library.
