Disappearing Messages

I am the owner of my group.  While trying to add a new member and unsuccessfully getting error messages: "something went wrong could not add",  My previous messages disappeared.

I have done the following: signed in/out, deleted app and reinstalled, and rebooted iPhone 

Nothing has worked.  Everyone else is fine.
