Phone Number issue

I have a new phone number but I'm unable to change my phone number within the app. I was recently invited to a new GroupMe group for school with my new phone number, but I can't see any emojis or attachments because you have to view them through the app. I also don't see the group listed in my Chat list. I currently only receive notifications via text message but again, I can't interact with the group via the app because they're not listed because the app is pointing to my old phone number. I deleted the app from my iPhone and reinstalled it, thinking it would fix the issue, but it didn't. Please advise on how I can update my phone number and see the full list of groups to which I'm connected in the app.

I have tried the steps above and it says my number can't be changed. I haven't had that old number in over a year. can you help?
