Connection to Database

Hi Guys,

Could somebody help with the following, is it possible to connect to a
database (FASTA etc.) from java code? and if so does anybody know how
its done.

You can download copies of pretty much any database...
check out the NCBI FTP site:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Ftp/

or the EBI downloads service:
http://www.ebi.ac.uk/FTP/

and you can parse them using whatever programming language...

If you don't want complete copies of databases but just some entries, you can use the EBI webservices (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Tools/webservices/). Must of them have implemented java clients as well as perl clients. But... ¿FASTA Database?...
