Precaution When Using a USB Connection

Disconnect the USB cable that connects the device and computer before installing the driver.

Connect the USB cable after installing the driver.

Driver and application software files have been compressed.

The following instructions show you how to download the compressed files and decompress them.

1. To download files, click the file link, select [Save], and specify the directory where you want to save the file. The download will start automatically.

2. Downloaded files are saved in the specified folder in a self-extracting format (.exe format).

3. Double-click the files to decompress them. A new folder will be created in the same folder. The new folder will have the same name as the compressed file.

4. Double-click the decompressed Setup.exe file to start installation.

I downloaded the latest driver from the canon website. When I went to install, I got the error message, "An older version of the MF drivers exist in this computer. Uninstall the older version of the MF drivers, and then try to install again." OK, so I went into the programs list and installed the Canon driver and the Canon Toolbox. Right-clicked and removed (uninstalled?) the unknown USB device. Unplugged the USB cable. Rebooted. Still got the same error message when I tried to install the new stuff.

So I searched my C: drive for anything with the word "Canon" and "MF48". I deleted all files except for what was in "Recent" and what was in "C:\windows.old". I want to be able to go back to Windows 7 if necessary. Rebooted even. But still got the older driver error message.

I did get an error message about "Failed to remove package cnxrpua6.inf. Access is denied". That's why I wrote above that maybe the "Remove driver only" option might work better. But the error didn't matter since I was instantly able to install the Canon drivers I had downloaded. No reboot required.

Please right-click on the MF630C Series icons and verify that there are no documents in the queue. If the queue is clear, restart the computer, and then perform the deletion from Print Server Properties again.

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter Canon iR3300 into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

The installation process can be complex. Please read the release notes before downloading. By downloading from Alaris, you agree to the terms & conditions outlined in the license agreement. Actual file size for multilanguage downloads may vary.

There are two methods I found to find and install the device drivers (one for the printer, and one for the scanner). I'll document the easiest one for Ubuntu users in the hopes that we can all learn something from this.

Note: possibly poor User interface on that web page - it is easy to miss large selection of other printer types in horizontal scrolling blue bar in middle of page. I think that is why I missed this simple solution the first time (doh!).

You can install plotters for use a couple ways. We use system printers for the standard printers. Basically using the currently installed windows printers to generate the plot files. Then for our real plotter, KIP 5000, we use the vendor-specific HIDI driver and install as a system printer.

The normal settings should come back, but if they have any custom paper sizes defined in the pc3 file, they will need to redo them. If you get a blank stare, then they are probably not using them. You can copy them somewhere to be safe.

So find out what printer/plotter they are having difficulty on, what is their local O/S, is it 32bit or 64bit, and if the plotter is being managed by a printer server (32 or 64bit and what O/S). Another thing to know is if they have used this plotter before with no issues and now are having problems.

Assuming it worked before (if not, we need the specifics requested above), doubleclick the Add-the-printer wizard. If it is a windows printer (see if available as a printer in Windows), the choose System Printer on second screen, select the printer to be used, and keep clicking next until you are done and back to the Windows explorer. Plotter should now be available as selection.

Jeff, in 2009 you can go to File > Plotter Manager. That essentially just opens a Windows Explorer window to the folder set as your Printer Configuration Search Path under Options. We have ours set to a network path so we all use standard PC3 files but this workstation could point to a local folder. If your folder is network based then be careful about changing the files as you may be breaking a PC3 for someone that is currently using it due to different printer names.

Try checking to make sure that he has all his mapped drives (if thats whats being used in your organization). Its possible to configure AutoCAD to pull some of that information from a mapped drive or share. If he is missing a drive or cannot access the share, that could cause the same error.

Memory mode uses the same data transfer method as previous versions of Acrobat and scans directly to the computer's memory. Native mode scans directly to the file and is more compatible with various scanners.

Change User Interface under Scanner Options from Hide Scanner's Native Interface to Show Scanner's Native Interface. Show Scanner's Native Interface uses the same scanning method as previous versions of Acrobat. It lets the scanner's driver operate the scanner. Hide Scanner's Native Interface attempts to use the Twain driver directly. It can eliminate error messages, especially when scanning multiple pieces of paper. If none of these solutions work, then it's sometimes necessary to use a workaround.

Note: Photoshop and Photoshop Elements don't always provide good results to test against. Scanner manufacturers develop software specifically for these products to reduce the likelihood of problems.

Acrobat supports Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers. If your scanner supports both drivers, then select the WIA driver from the Device menu in the Create PDF From Scanner dialog box. Scan the document.

Contact the scanner manufacturer to obtain the latest driver. To reinstall the driver, delete all files and folders that begin with Twain (for example, "Twain_32.dll") in the Windows or Winnt folder. Then, restart Windows, and then install the latest scanner driver according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Some applications can cause system errors or freezes when running concurrently with Adobe Acrobat. Before starting Acrobat, disable other applications, including startup items (items that start automatically with Windows).

Scanning into Acrobat in some color modes can cause problems when using certain scanners. For instructions on scanning into Acrobat using a different color mode, see the documentation included with the scanner.

If the scanned image is clipped or has the wrong dimensions, then specify the image size in the preview panel for the scanner software. For instructions on specifying the image size, see the documentation included with the scanner.

If you've successfully scanned into Acrobat before, your user account could be corrupted, causing problems when you scan. Create a user account with administrative privileges, then log in to your system using the new account.

Some scanners don't report 'supported sizes' to Acrobat when Hide Scanner's Native Interface is selected in Scanner Options in Acrobat. Switch the User Interface option to Show Scanner's Native Interface and select the page size from the scanner application.
