Hi Everyone,

I'm a new user to the group and haven't gotten to make any events so far, but thought I would throw this opportunity out there.

There is a Grails hackathon (Grails48) going down November 9-11. The details aren't well formed at this point but it will be your standard hackathon and a good chance to connect with more groovy users.

It is set up so that any city can register a local team, but there will also be a bunch of people that will be participating strictly online who will form teams. I know there are already teams formed from New York and Seattle....if anyone would be interested in getting a Minneapolis team together let me know, otherwise feel free to join up and be part of an online team :)

Hope to see you there -
Jake

I'd definitely be interested. I'm rather new to Grails but I absolutely
love working on Open Source. Even if I'm just there to project manage /
grunt work / etc... Keep me posted. I threw this on my calendar. You
might ping @kwiersma on Twitter too.

Go ahead and register if you would like and if we can pull together more Minneapolis devs I will get a local team created for us.

If anyone else is interested hit up my email or we can do the twitter @JacobASeverson.

Done. I did create a Minnesota / Mineapolis team if people want to join
that team -- even if we are just doing it online.

So are we hacking on Grails as a framework or Grails based
applications? I guess I'm curious what exactly we'll hack on. If we
need an open source Grails based application to hack on, Kurt Wiersma,
myself and Matt Woodward (member of Grails UG in Seattle) have been
working on Enlist. Enlist is a volunteer management application for
non-profits. We're actually building it so it can be used by Team Ortho
here in the Twin Cities. They do a lot of the running races like the
Minneapolis Marathon, Monster Dash, Polar Dash etc.

That sounds like a great project for the event!

Thus far the only ideas I've heard have been to work on the framework itself (I remember someone throwing around some plugins we could add features to). However, at this point there isn't much defined for the event's structure so I would assume ideas like this would be welcome. Personally, I would much rather hack on something that will help a non profit in our city than the ssec ui plugin. Whether this project becomes part of the hackathon or not I would love to lend a hand if needed. I'll get a hold of you to discuss the issue more.

Fabulous -- more the merrier for Enlist! I can definitely add you as a
project member on GitHub and maybe we can meet for coffee or a beer one
night so I can fill you in on the goals / where we're going / etc. We
have a feature list and goals, but we're playing how to get there by
ear. Feel free to ping me here, G+ or Twitter.

As in regards to the Hackathon, we can see if Enlist fits or not. Also,
if the group is small -- we might be able to find a place to have it --
even for a few hours. I know that Common Roots (26th St and Lyndale
Ave) has a common room that we could reserve for a two hour block for
free -- even if just to meet on the Friday night to get coordinated.

We could host it at our office,

11 Fourth Street NE, Suite 201
Minneapolis, MN 55413

its on the second floor of the same building we have GUM meetings.

It said all positions full but it let me join the team. You might want to see if you can update it to say we are always looking for more devs and designers.

Doug,

Can I list ReachLocal's office as the official location?

Thanks so much. I passed the location information over to one of the
Grails48 organizers -- Jeff Thorne. I CC'ed you on the email so you
know what's going on.
