I started a speaker page. We need to brainstorm on possible speakers.

How are you following on Twitter?

Click on http://groups.google.com/group/groovycon/web/speakers-page -
or copy & paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't
work.

I vote against non-Groovy technology focus for reasons stated
elsewhere.

I'd love to have discussions on no-groovy topics that might be related to groovycon but I agree with Bill, let's keep focus on gr8 technologies at least for the first installment, other Midwest conferences (like Codemash) already offer a wide range of topics :-)

We need to talk with each of the potential national speakers we are
trying to get. By we, I mean one person should be responsible for this
and have taken this upon myself. What I need is for anyone who has
email addresses for any of the people we've identified to forward the
email address to me. Alternatively, you can contact them, but I will
want you to do so as soon as possible (say Monday, 1st June) and let
me know who you are contacting so that there is no overlap. I
currently have Dierk Koenig's, Jim Shingler's, Chris Judd's, and
Andrew Eisenberg's addresses. Below is the draft letter I am sending.

As you may already know, we in the Groovy Users of Minnesota are busy
trying to organize a GR8 conference here in Minneapolis. If this is
something at which you might be able to present, you could help us by
answering the following questions.

First, we do need to budget, so we are wondering how you would expect
to be compensated for coming to present at our show in Minneapolis,
assuming you do come.

1. Do you need airfare?
2. Hotel?
3. Meals (other than those included directly in the conference)?
4. Other consideration?

We are trying to keep the cost low, but need to be realistic. And, of
course, the more we get, the more generous we can be, so if there are
absolute expenses we’d need to cover and nice to haves, please let me
know.

If your employer can sponsor part or all of your trip, let us know
that as well.

We do not have definite dates yet. We are focusing on the following.
Which of these dates would you prefer, are likely able to come? Are
they any you definitely know you cannot? Note that these are all
Thursday/Friday dates.

September 24/25
October 1/2
October 8/9
October 15/16

If none of these dates work, but you would like to be part of the
event, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Bill, we should look at the past presenter pages of gateway GUG, GUM,
and ChiGug as well as any other GUGs.
