Hi Gang,

We currently have 3 sponsors:
Me - $100, Shuan - $100, OTUG - Unspecified

Arun from OTUG said they would be willing to co-sponsor the event.
Personally, I think this is a good thing. They have /some/ money, but
they also bring with a large sponsor pool of their past events. Shuan
and Bill, you guys seem to have voting rights as the primary
organizers... how do you feel about having GroovyCon co-sponsored by
OTUG? I don't see any drawbacks.

Also, we should have sponsorship levels and then draft a sponsorship
request form (I volunteer for this).
Here is what I'm thinking about levels:

"Rock Star" - $1000 - Receive 1 free admission. Get mentioned in
printed material/announcement. Get to hang a banner at conference.
"Backing Band" - $500 - Receive 1 free admission. Get mentioned in
printed material/announcement. Get banner on website.
"Roadie" - $250 - Receive 1 free admission to event. Meant for small
corporations. Get banner on website.
"Groupie" - $100 contribution - You receive 1 free admission to the
event. Meant for individual contributions. Will be recognized at the
conference (different name tag?)

The good thing about the $100 level is that you receive a free
admission, so individuals will be encouraged to contribute. And if we
get enough sponsors overall then the event can be made free, but those
willing to help out can still have an easy option to do so.

I like that layout Hamlet, especially the lower level contributors.  It seems like an good threshold for people to contribute.  One thing about the higher level sponsorships:  I assume we'll have space available for promotional material for sponsors, possibly in a handout bag/packet when signing in?

Why you should think I have voting rights is beyond me.

I, too, like your idea and also agree with Shaun. I am not kidding
about a t-shirt, btw. So, I think sponsors should be on the t-shirt as
well, but it may have to be limited to those spending $250 or more.

I have no problem with OTUG being involved. I think, too, we should
contact the chairman of the St. Louis and Chicago GUGs. Let's make
sure they are not cooking something up, or that we work together. And,
possibly we could rotate through the three cities in the future (I
know this is getting way ahead of ourselves). I do believe that if we
do this once, it will be easier to do a second time, and easier to do
in another city, especially if we have organizers from those cities to
help out.

I am largely unavailable today, and for the morning tomorrow, but will
jump back into things then. But, will try to respond a bit to
postings.

Bill, I like the idea of involving some regional GUGs and think it would be cool as a rotating event in the future.

Does anyone have contact info for the chairman of those GUGs? I don't
want to broaden beyond that at this point. After this one is done, we
can step back and see where we go from here.

I know the Chicago GUG organizer and a few members. Dave Klein knows
the St. Louis crew I believe. There's also the Omaha dynamic language
user group, which Scott Hickey knows.

Sponsors on T-Shirts is a good idea... if we can afford T-Shirts.
