Tostrengthen your application for admission, we recommend that international applicants from China and other nearby countries consider participating in an interview/writing sample administered by InitialView as an optional part of their application. InitialView will provide a recording of the interview and a copy of the writing sample to us for our review. InitialView does not rate or grade the interview/writing sample, and evaluation is done by our office. If you intend to submit an InitialView report, please notify the Office of Admissions of the date you will interview. We will also consider interviews provided by Vericant.
Additionally, international applicants who demonstrate academic achievement through completion of one of the following may have the English language proficiency requirement waived, subject to review by the Office of Admissions:
Students who meet our English proficiency requirements through IGCSE scores or by having completed three years or more of qualifying coursework at a regionally-accredited US high school must complete the University of Oregon's Accuplacer English placement test prior to enrollment. The University of Oregon reserves the right to require proof of English language proficiency from any applicant regardless of their citizenship, if deemed necessary by a university official.
The Academic English for International Students (AEIS) program helps international students develop advanced expertise in English. During the mandatory International Student Orientation, all new international students take the AEIS placement test. Depending on the results of the AEIS placement test, students are required to take anywhere from 0 to 6 AEIS classes. Students enrolled in AEIS classes are at the same time enrolled in regular UO courses of their choice. AEIS classes are credit-bearing courses and count toward UO graduation requirements. The only way to be exempt from assigned AEIS classes is with a qualifying test score from the full admission category listed on the chart above.
If you do not have the qualifying scores listed above, you will be considered for conditional admission. If you are offered conditional admission to the UO, you will be enrolled in AEI to improve your English language skills. Upon successful completion of the highest level of AEI, you will be fully admitted to the UO. You may also submit a passing TOEFL or IELTS score for consideration for full admission while enrolled at AEI. A passing TOEFL or IELTS score submitted while enrolled at AEI does not guarantee full admission.
Our online application will typically take 15-20 minutes to complete. All you need to get started is to submit the online application and pay the application fee. You may upload other required documents at that time or at a later date in your admissions portal.
Determining when to apply is a great first step toward your RIT Graduate degree. When to apply to your degree depends on your start term and the degree's application deadline. Some degrees do not have a deadline and continue to accept applications throughout the year. We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. If a deadline has passed, do not let that deter you. We still welcome your application and cannot wait to read it.
Applications that are complete and received by the priority deadline listed for that degree are given priority consideration for admission and financial aid (if applicable). Applications received after the priority deadline will be considered on a space-available basis. We encourage you to apply even if the priority deadline has passed.
The RIT online graduate application includes sections that will ask you to provide us with personal/biographical information, contact information, citizenship details, your past or current college/university and major/degree details, and test score data (if required by your degree), in addition to other profile data. If letter(s) of recommendation are required for your degree, you will be able to enter the names and contact information for each recommender. You will also be able to upload any supporting materials to your application. You may upload supporting documents while completing your online application or after you have submitted your application in your admissions portal. RIT prefers all supporting documents be submitted electronically.
At RIT, you can submit one application and indicate up to 3 program choices. We encourage you to indicate a 2nd and 3rd choice program. If you are not accepted to your 1st choice program, we will automatically facilitate a review for your other choice(s). We will contact you if additional materials are required for 2nd and 3rd choice programs.
RIT requires transcripts from all colleges and universities that you have attended, including transcript grading keys.
International students should provide transcripts (or mark sheets) and degree certificates from all post-secondary institutions.
Upon enrollment at RIT, you will need to contact your prior college or university and request that your official, final records be sent directly to RIT. Documents you upload are not considered official.
3-Year Degrees from International Universities
RIT will review applicants with 3-year degrees from international universities. Students with 3-year degrees from India must meet all of the following conditions:
Upload a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) to your online application. Your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) should include details about your education, employment, and internship history. Pertinent research experience should be included as well.
Please upload a personal statement describing your educational objectives. The goal of the personal statement is to introduce yourself to the Admissions Committee. There is no minimum or maximum page length or word count.
Please upload a statement of purpose for research which will allow the Admissions Committee to learn the most about you as a prospective researcher. There is no minimum or maximum page length or word count.
One or more letters of recommendation are required for admission to all RIT graduate programs except those offered by the College of Business. Recommendations should come from members of the academic community and/or workplace professionals who know your qualifications for graduate study.
Within the online application, you are able to enter information for your recommenders and submit an email request for letters. Recommendation letters should be submitted directly to RIT from the referee/person writing the letter for you.
The preferred method for the submission of recommendation letters is to use the functionality within the online application. If your recommenders are unable to submit their letters using the above method, then letters may be emailed directly by recommenders to
grad...@rit.edu or sent by postal mail to the Office of Graduate Enrollment Services.
You have the option to submit a writing sample as part of your application. View the admissions requirements section on your degree page to determine if a writing sample and/or essay is required by the program to which you seek admission.
Our team is here to help you understand the next steps for applying for your student visa. To apply for a student visa, U.S. government regulations require international students to demonstrate that they have sufficient financial resources to meet the costs of tuition, fees, supplies, and living expenses for at least nine months of full-time study.
The IELTS Speaking test lasts for 11-14 minutes. This test assesses your usage of the English language. The speaking test consists of 3 parts; each part lasting for 4 minutes. In this test, you will have a face-to-face discussion with your examiner. The format of the speaking test requires you to discuss a variety of topics with the examiner. The questions for your speaking test are all about your everyday activities and a range of familiar topics like sports, traveling, work, studies, etc.
The speaking test tests your English language speaking skills. You have to answer the questions spontaneously without any pauses. Maintain confidence while speaking on any given topic. It is a good idea to read a lot of different IELTS speaking samples to get ready for the test.
We bring to you a list of speaking sample papers that will assist you in your IELTS test prep journey. The sample questions on all the 3 Parts will give you clarity about the topics expected on test day.
IELTS speaking part 1 is generally a warm-up. The examiner will ask you simple questions about yourself and your daily activities. Make sure you speak clearly and confidently in response to each question. Remember to use examples in support of your answers.
A list of such topics and questions is given below. Some of these sample questions are highly likely to appear on your exam, so review them well. You can rehearse these topics for part 1 of your speaking test.
Speaking part 2 is a monologue of yours about a given topic. You will be handed a card with the topic. You will be given 1 minute to prepare your talk. You are allowed to make notes for your monologue.
2 minutes to speak on the given topic. You will be provided with paper and a pencil to prepare your answers for 1 minute. Plan your speech according to the time limit. Start speaking after the examiner asks you to speak and stop as he asks you to stop.
Speaking part 3 is an extension of part 2. In this part, the examiner might ask you further questions related to your topic in part 2. You should be prepared to evaluate the matter for a structured discussion.
Please keep in mind that UCLA graduate programs have additional requirements and/or requirements beyond the minimum given above, and that many more applications are received from qualified applicants than there are places available.
Prospective applicants to UCLA are encouraged to view our Program Statistics which provides admissions data by academic program. Data includes applicants, admits, and new registered student counts.
