Sounds like a couple nights where the tent had ice buildup but the days have
been super.
I think he will be posting to the list from his laptop and cell phone but am
not sure the cell connection works right, so I figured to drop a short report
for them. These gray cubicle walls are getting closer. I need a wheelie.
;)

Both TA's are running like animals! You know how it goes, the riders get
tired the first days in the sadle and the bikes are still a bit lazy from
doing commute rides. But now both are loosened up. We're doing approximately
300 miles per day and are having a great time. Counting from 'home' (Fremont
CA) we've done 1750 miles, starting last sunday.
The hooking up to the net doesn't go well....
I thought I had everything figured out, connecting my little laptop to the
cellphone but this far from home, the "roaming" light comes on and the phone
produces 4 'beeps' that sound like a busy signal before it starts ringing.
My computer thinks that the line is busy and disconnects. (My phone is from
Verizon and I have a nation wide plan so I shouldn't be charged for roaming)
Can anyone tell me how to 'fix' windows 2000, how to skip the first beeps??
I tried before but couldn't get my web server alive from here. If I succeed
in a few minutes from now, I'll be uploading a bunch of pictures to:

Does anyone have any comments on any of these pro or con? Or any other
suggestions for tires like these?
I know I'm going to hate it when I'm on the road and it rains but I'm just
dying to take my TA out for a couple of dual sport rides this summer and see
what it's really capable of with proper tires. Maybe I can give the KTM's a
good scare!

If you really need off-road biased tyres, MT 21 is very good. Don't know
much about the others, but I think MT 21 is a better choice than the Karoo.
It has a good reputation.
But unless you need as good grip as possible grip in mud and slime,
Continental TKC 80 is the best you can get by far if you still like a good
road tyre with decent lifespan IMHO. They are probably the best TA allround
surface tyres, lasts far longer than MT 21's and is so good on road you
would think it is a street tyre. I have recommende these before on the
list, and I haven't met anyone in our club ( www.otc-mc.org ) who are not
mighty impressed with these tyres yet.

TKC 80 is very good in rain also, no worries. If you need a dirt biased
tyre on your Transalp that feels like a road tyre on-road, try the Contis.
You will have to give more steering input in curves than with round
profiled road oriented tyres, they feel different when leaning over, and
they won't stop you as fast as f.i. Michelin Siracs on road, that's the
biggest difference. The TKC will either make you feel much more secure
off-road or permit a faster ride with more conficdence and - much more fun
off the pavement-
We buy them stinking cheap in Norway and that is quite OK also. A _set_
(90/90-21 + 130/80-17) for Transalp is app 1250,- NOK -> 150 US$ with 30%
discount. Tyres only that is of course. Go figure why we rave about them ;-)
It would be interesting to see if the US TA riders comes to the same
conclusion as TA/AT owners in Norway.
