This brings the resale of units to an average increase of $19,728 or
12.45% (including unit #28), and an average increase of $15,016 or
8.54% (excluding unit #28).

I think with the media downplaying how bad the economy really is, that
the County and UGA Cities will stick with the bureaucratic mode of
behind closed door negotiations.
A new, and more ominous wrinkle has been added! UGA Cities are trying
to take, as in literally steal, your right to vote, or express any
opinions on annexation.
With our County Council selling off as many acres of County land as
possible before the election in November. This is no more then their
campaign contributors wishes being addressed. This very same group of
campaign contributors now control our UGA Cities and media.
Our County Executive must know, and see what's going on, yet says
nothing?
No, the GMA states annexations DO NOT have to happen, or be broken up
into UGA Cities, so something like this could never happen. Many City's
can't service their own population, and this is no more then a dollar
driven bonanza for developers and those elected officials who side with
them.
It has a time frame, if annexation doesn't happen, the UGA's revert
back to the Counties.
One UGA, the largest in the entire state, is asking to absorb a
population five to six times it's size, without a voice or vote of the
people. This might explain why it's City Planner and Administrator was
let go? Why pay both, when you can just take what you wish? They are
trying to hire an "Annexation Specialist?" Our jails, I'm sure could
release the right person that would be more then happy to take what the
GMA does not grant, the power to just TAKE!
This worked in 1938 Germany by the very same means, annexation like it
or not. The only difference is it took nearly the entire world to stop
this {Land taking} If allowed here, it will be permanent
This is right up some of our seated County Council members UN-permitted
ally's!
The one's who have profited by the complete and utter disregard of the
zoning regulations and building permits on there own property's, by
just not applying for them.
99% of home owners would be sitting in jails, waiting to become
"Annexation Specialists"

I further agree with you on the issue of the economy. It is my
understanding that job growth hit an all time low in the last month
(all time low in thirty years, no less). Combined with high energy
costs (though I am a believer that petrol has always been artifically
low in this country), high unemployment only can exasperate the overall
economic situation. I thought we were trying to keep the oil prices
low as our countrymen attacked Iraq - could there be yet another bit of
mis-representation of fact (might I mention weapons of mass
destruction).
The City of Sultan continues to defend itself against bad policy.
Today's mantra is: But, that's in the past, people didn't know how to
read blueprints, etc. (However, we have virtually the same staff as
five years ago .... Have they learned how to read blueprints, yet?)
Of course, the esteemed Mayor has the building official present how
much has been collected in (building) fees at council meetings -
attempting to justify keeping a building department. What he's of
course not putting on the records is the fact that many of the current
projects are being reviewed by Berryman and Heninger - and, of course
what is omitted from the building departments oral reports is the cost
of contracting the work out to a third party. Furthermore, what is
absent in these presentation of data are the actual impacts new homes
have on the Levels of Service (LOS). But, I guess if the old ways seem
to have worked, why change them?
The only council member who in my eperience has asked good questions is
Derrik Boyd. He continues to ask about the limitations of the current
sewage plant ... in other words, he's asking about levels of service.
Then there's the mayor who took a citizen to task about his comments on
the Annexation Policy. He asked how long the citizen has lived in
Sultan. Wow, I guess it matters whether a taxpayer has lived here for
fifty years or five seconds ... add another feather in the City's hat
for civil rights limitations. Free speech is only for those who agree
with policy and include land rights issues. (Just an aside, I was for
the Annexation Policy.) The rule is if you do not fall into these
categories, do not speak up - for the mayor personally will take you to
task. Might I mention the difference between appeals and lawsuits ...
both are the cost of doing business as a GMA city. But, when BNI
appeals the City's actions it never gets mentioned - when citizens
seeking responsible behavior appeal, it becomes a cost to the City. Go
figure ...
MAKE UP YOUR MINDS PEOPLE!!!! Sultan is no longer a little podunk
town... we are growing, and we have to make it work.. so instead of
pissing and moaning, get involved..
I am actively involved in several Sultan organizations, the purpose of
which are to improve Sultan for all. Also (arguably) in that
"improvement" category is my effort in updating and publishing this
website and forum, and the periodic distribution of a "news" update
bulletin. Additionally, I attend every council meeting and hearing
(with very few exceptions), most PC meetings and hearing examiner
hearings on developments. How many organizations/civic venues do you
attend for the betterment of Sultan (and beyond)? We would sincerely
like to learn that, as well as your definition of "getting involved."
"Keep the homes out"?? Again, you miss the point which has been
repeatedly stated for five years in city meetings, on our website and
in our former forum (since April 10, 2000), by us and many, many
others: To ensure that the process and laws are followed when new
development occurs, and that both the intent as well as the letter of
the laws are upheld during
that process.
I would be interested in your definition of "pissing and moaning," if
you would care to share that with everyone. .
Thank you.
