Older Nook e-readers will not be able to buy ebooks anymore
15 November 2023 (Good E-Reader)
Barnes and Noble have announced that they are suspending the service of older Nook e-readers. Barnes and Noble want people to upgrade to newer Nook e-readers.
I am starting to develop app where you basically could buy books and read them on device. For this to happen the main problem is to find good free (open source) pdf reader. There are some on the web. Ebookdroid, APV pdf viewer and others.
However there performance isn't really impressive. So i know that android don't have any native pdf reader, but i heard somewhere that from Android 4.0 android would support pdf reader. I was searching for this info but really can't find anything.
Let's start off with my favorite open source Android eBook reader: Book Reader. It's based on the older, open source version of the now-proprietary FBReader app. Like earlier versions of its progenitor, Book Reader is simple and minimal, but it does a great job.
KOReader was originally created for E Ink eBook readers but found its way to Android. While testing it, I found KOReader to be both useful and frustrating in equal measures. It's definitely not a bad app, but it's not my first choice.
Yes, that really is the name of this eBook reader. It's the most basic of the eBook readers in this article but don't let that (or the goofy name) put you off. Booky McBookface is easy to use and does the one thing it does quite well.
Some basic things I have come to enjoy, and would not want to give up, is first of all, the ability to use my own ebooks to browse Project Gutenberg's catalog (as I showed in -books-your-ereader ), where my current ebook reader (not in your list, and I presume not open source) will internally go to PG's website and be able to download a book directly to the reader -- it also allows you to view the book in HTML onsite to decide if you want to download it. It seems to have its own internal browser.
I also have the ability to look up a word or phrase straight from the reader to Firefox or Google -- you highlight the phrase, then click DEFINE. If it's a foreign word or passage, you click TRANSLATE, in which case it goes straight to Google Translate with the passage, and you back-click to return to the reader afterward. Very convenient.
you missed the best of all librera reader -droid.org/en/packages/com.foobnix.pro.pdf.reader/. The only cons that I have with this app is that the load of the ebook can be slow, I think that depends on the type of file and its content.
The following tables detail e-book reader software for the Android operating system. Each section corresponds to a major area of functionality in an e-book reader software. The comparisons are based on the latest released version.
Other e-book readers for Android devices include: BookShout!, Nook e-Reader applications for third party devices and OverDrive Media Console. Additionally, Palmbookreader reads some formats (such as PDB and TXT) on Palm OS and Android devices. The Readmill app, introduced in February 2011, reads numerous formats on Android and iOS devices but shut down July 1, 2014.[10] Another popular app Bluefire Reader was removed from Google Play Store in 2019.
Should you experience any problems, please report them in the Issues section on the developer's website, at the following address: code.google.com/p/ebookdroid/.
If you are having issues with a specific document, don't forget to attach it to your question to the developers.
Some PDF readers may have the ability to take a Double wide Landscape page and show each half in a separate frame for similar purposes (usually one controllers 4:3 notes window and one 16:9 projectionist window) SumatraPDF just shows the two halves side by side without any split.
