Hi all,

Summer has been a little hectic, and I realize I forgot to send updates on the CFL project and a few meetings I have had.

Attached is the one-page write-up for the CFL project. Catherine Hurley (Evanston's Sustainability Programs Coordinator) enjoyed the project so much that in a meeting I had with her on June 22nd she urged GRIN to participate in future CFL projects as there are still ~10,000 CFL lightbulbs in storage. Specifically, she would like us to work on replacing lighting in large buildings such as hotels or retirement homes. The replacement of bulbs in the retirement homes could also encompass community work, such as educating seniors on energy conservation. I mentioned to Catherine that the only qualm we would have is transportation, and she assures me that it would be taken care of via a city van.

I also met with Northwestern's Director of Sustainability, Robb Whittier on June 22nd. He is very interested in working with us on a project more our speed; quantifying and identifying ways to save in Northwestern buildings. Specifically, he mentioned targeting gymnasiums. This would likely require more people to be involved in GRIN, so if you know anyone in need of an extracurricular, let 'em know!

Right now, both of these propositions are just food for thought. Nearing the end of summer, I will contact them for more details. In the meantime, I am interested in hearing what you think. Obvious preference is given to Northwestern, but I think it might be possible to tackle both projects since CFL implementation is not at all research or write-up intensive.

I hope you're all enjoying your summers!

Andi
