Onthe printer in the menu system you can configure wifi. When you do it will prompt you to use a phone or other wireless device. You navigate to the access point it suggests (will be something like "ultimaker-44aa". Then open *any* DNS address that isn't https. Probably best to pick one you've never been to such as "
aaabbcde.com" and the dns server on the ultimaker will direct the query to it's own ip address automatically.
@HaiderOfSweden - I'm not sure if you are giving us full information. When you say "it doesn't work" we need more details. Did you find the hotspot? What was the name of the hotspot? Did your phone say it was connected? Were you very careful to avoid https? What message did you get on your phone?
People have said that doing a "cura connect reset" makes a world of difference. Some people have to do this several times per week but it works. It works better than rebooting or other "start over" methods. I have never had to do "cura connect reset" and I'm not even sure how to do that but I assume it's in the menus somewhere on the UM3 and S5.
I would start with mentioning that I've done the Wifi Setup before and have succeeded. The printer had been packed down for some time and now I resumed my work. Unpacked, and was ready to go, but failed. Maybe the wifi password was changed since last time, maybe something else.
The browser on your mobile device can still cache pages - in which case it might not work as expected. It is a good idea to clear the browser cache before trying, or as you did, use an url you have not tried before... Making one up should work as well: "iwant.wifi.now"
Making one up also assures it isn't https as most sites these days are https and you can't get to the UM wifi setup web page if you choose an https site. Such as
google.com. So making up a new site is best like: a.a
I had this exact same issue, the problem for me was that my Pixel was intelligently noticing that the Wifi network didn't have internet connectivity so was routing all my traffic to my mobile network. Setting my phone to Airplane mode, then connecting to the hotspot fixed this issue for me (Ultimaker S5)
I've been using Zoom from home but now I have to go into an office with no wifi one day a week, using Zoom for 6 hours. Will using my iphone as a hotspot provide consistent quality? Would using a hotspot device be better? I'm a psychotherapist, so I need to have a consistent signal.
I dedicated hotspot with a USB connection might be just a little more of a robust solution though. You could pick a hotspot on the network with the best coverage for your location. Still try to pick a hotpot that supports a USB connection for tethering though.
I've called support and they have "reset" things and said, "It should be better now. If not, give it a few days." Well, it's been a few days and 3 more calls to support and guess what... WiFi still sucks.
Our live Advisors are best equipped to test and resolved any concerns with slow Wi-Fi. Multiple devices, location, and and overhead obstacles are all factors that can effect download speeds. While you have already spoken with your live Advisors, we recommend doing so once more by pushing your blue OnStar button.
Ya, I feel like a real sucker paying for WiFi hotspot. It's fine for keeping up with email in the back ground, but if I want to visit any site that has video embedded, I have to turn off wifi and use my phone's cell service. Makes no sense since my phone uses the same provider as OnStar. I have called several times from my vehicle and they have never been able to get any improvement in in my hotspot. I'll get over 40Mb with my phone connected to cell network, but when I connect to my Cadillac hotspot it is less than 1Mb. I think someone should hold OnStar accountable for false advertising. They suggest better service with the hotspot because bigger antenna and better power (car battery/engine). It's a joke. I'm really sick and tired of them using "Multiple devices, location, and and overhead obstacles are all factors that can effect download speeds" as an excuse since the cell phone, shielded by the car roof, on its own blows the doors off the hotspot.
Yeah, I'll push the blue button again... but only to get a refund. The part that bothers me is that my wife's Trailblazer sitting next to my truck gets almost 25Mbps. So I know it's possible to get good speeds out of it.
Funny story about that "blue button." When they cancelled my service, the Blue Button could be pressed, but no one would answer. I had to call in via phone to get basic service re-established. Now I am being told that I need to wait 3-5 days for someone to get back to me with a resolution. Great service, as you are well aware!
On-star is similar to a prepaid phone line, they maybe using the same network as At&t but you do not get the same benefits as AT&T. (try running a speedtest, speedtest, neet and see what the service is being provided by, probably Zayo) The only way to get the full benefits of On-star is to port the number over from onstar to AT&T. Press the blue button ask for the phone number associated with your on star and than call AT&T and port the number over.
I have been having this issue for awhile now. My phone will connect, work well for a few minutes, slow down, and then disconnect all together. I have erased all my settings twice, had Verizon update my carrier settings, gotten a new SIM card, and it still doesn't work. Is there a fix for this?? I'm trying to remote teach, and I am not having as much success as I need.
Same here. Wasn't even a problem with the ios14 beta. The issue literally started with the public release... Also noticed my phone would be a little more hotter than usual when devices are tethered to it.
This is a real issue that apple needs to address and fix. I called support yesterday and they first tried to blame my windows computer. I told them it was not as I was on the phone not my computer when I got an email to my phone and after that the blue bar on the top disappeared. This is what happens the phones modem maybe is turning off. But again it was working just fine since the start of COVID on iOS13. Apple this is such a important thing for so many people working from home.
It is not carrier specific issue! None of the Carriers in Kuwait have restriction on hotspot & the disconnections happen, especially when a call is answered. This is annoying as the Cisco VPN gets dropped and the wifi network disappears from the list of available networks etc.
Same problem here - most annoying. I tried resetting Network Settings with default to iPhone network name but a week on and the disconnects are so random often within a few seconds of each other.. iPhone no longer connects to other peripheral devices by Wifi which were OK under IOS13. Tried SIM in my old S7 Android and works perfectly with no disconnects...Come on Apple get this fixed as people need solid tethering to keep their lives and businesses on track during this Pandemic. This equipment is no toy considering the prices you charge!
Thanks buddy. I updated the device to 14.2, reset the network settings and the tethering is working without additional problems for now. Well, as a new iphone user, getting used to factors like, cannot move the phone as far away from the devices connected like the previous Android device etc.
I am having same problem from last one year with IPhone XR on iOS 13 and 14. Few observations from my end. After connecting to hotspot if I pick up or make phone call hotspot gets disconnected. Same happens if I browse web or app on iPhone for sometime with hotspot on. Another problem is with my Apple Watch. Whenever I go out of range of my iPhone with Apple Watch on hand with hotspot on it gets disconnected. If I leave both my Apple Watch and iPhone near my laptop hotspot stays on until I get some phone call. No solution till now for me.
Hello, i've setup a Pihole on a small machine (not using PiOS but debian) and i've a pre-configured network with a lot of devices using the routers own DNS and DHCP. I'm planning to use a lan-cable connected hotspot/wifi adapter and only let the clients connected to the hotspot use Pihole.
The answer would entirely depend on the capabilities of that hotspot:
It has to present itself to its clients as their router, while it connects to your main router as a client at the same time, and your Pi-hole is best connected to that hotspot's network.
If you instead want to run Pi-hole on that same machine:
There is certainly more than one way to achieve this, and there are users that have succeeded running Pi-hole on an RPi acting as wireless AP, see e.g.RaspAP && PiHole , and RaspAp + Pi-Hole - #2 by Bucking_Horn might also be relevant.
