Today February 23 is the Day of Mourning of the Vainakh peoples. 77 years ago, on February 23, 1944, more than half a million civilians were deported from the territory of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic to Central Asia, guilty only of being born Vainakhs. During the operation "Lentil", carried out by the forces of the NKVD, the NKGB, and "SMERSH" under the general leadership of the People's Commissar of Internal Affairs L.P. Beria, genocide was carried out. As a result of the deportation, hundreds of thousands of people died of starvation, and the survivors were sentenced without trial to exile thousands of miles from their homes.
The perpetrators of this terrible crime against Humanity did not suffer any punishment.
Blessed memory of the dead.
