President of Ukraine took part in memorial meeting dedicated to the memory of the victims of Stalin's purges. The meeting took place in Bykivnya Memorial Park where one hundred thousand victims of tortures and execution committed by KGB in a few pre WWII years are buried.
President announced that he would issue a presidential decree to establish the Day commemoration of the victims of Communist repressions. The Day will be observed annually on the third Sunday of May.
President Yustshenko stated, "Certain circles are trying to prohibit any mention of the victims of political repressions. For many political players the historical truth simply burning eyes because with such history they would not have any place in today politics". He added, "We shell write he truthful pages of our history. Without any bias we must say the truth – why without war, and I especially stress, without war Ukrainian nation has lost ten million to the repressions? What kind of war, unknown war, it was?"
