Hi Marilyn,  I finally found the transcription of the letter I found at DAR headquarters in June 2006.  I believe this is what you were referring to when you stated you had misplaced our correspondence.  I have placed the transcription in red, but your comments are not distinguished, but I think we can figure them out.  I have some questions, but will wait until your review.

Happy New Year to all Grigg Descendants.

Hi Ann-thanks for thinking of me...I am not sure what to say....I have not seen this particular application I guess though I have gotten a couple....do you have the file number?

Jesse Glenn who supposedly married Nancy Webb and then Martha Elam is said to have been born 1732 but Carol Morrison believed it was more like 1745.  She  cited the reasons to me and I finally had to agree it sounded logical...My first reaction was that maybe Jesse who married Martha Elam was the son of Jesse Grigg who married Nancy Webb but Carol did not agree.  She says her reasoning is based on when he appeared in the records.  However she did say  she was not sure he was actually the son of Abner Glenn and Mary Ford that it seemed just as possible he was the son of Jesse Grigg and Amy Mitchell.  However he seems to have mostly been shown as son of Abner and Mary Ford....

I have a copy of a very similar letter from Wm T Grigg of Rutherford NC showing basically the same data but no proofs...So we need to try to get some proofs I think....

I will insert my comments in blue??

Hi Marilyn, I wanted to share this research with you.  I am not quite sure if everyone already has this or not, so if I am repeating previous research, please forgive.  The following was found in a file at the DAR Library/files.  I have not been able to see the proofs nor the rest of the original appl.  If need be, I can pay a $10.00 fee and send off for the appl.

Below is an abstract of letter from a D.A. Grigg, 23 Jul 19___?*  The D. Ann-  yes this was likely our correspondance....the thing is since then I helped Venita Walker get into DAR through Joel Elam. She is descended from Alexander Glenn and Frances Grigg....she has been trying for many years to get in on Jesse and failed.  We were told that Lloyd Bockstruck had lodged complaints that the lines on both Jesse and Burrell of this line were not substantiated sufficiently and the decision of DAR was that any future applicants for DAR had to provide their own proofs not use DAR data to go in on...I felt and so did Venita we had managed quite a great thing to establish the line through Jesse Grigg wf Martha Elam to Joel Elam and Phebe Hill.  I worked with Lloyd Bockstruck who evaluated and helped me know what would be considered acceptable..

But this still does not establish Jesse Grigg and Martha Elam sufficiently in their own right.  we do not know what became of Jesse or when he died...if he died in 1846, then I doubt he is the one who had been married to Nancy Webb.  And no matter what we should be able to find proofs of where and when?   Marilyn

Venita Walker sent me copies of her info she used for DAR through Joel Elam,  because my husband is a descendant of Jesse Grigg and Martha Elam through son Joel Grigg.

I thought that Jesse Grigg had married a Nancy (even though it was not sure it was Webb or not), before he married Martha Elam, has this changed? I get so confused with this line... While I am asking about this line, might I ask if there is proof  that Jesse Grigg is the son of Abner Grigg and Mary Ford?

The marriage of Jesse Grigg to Nancy Webb as far as I know has not been documented other than claims in DAR papers. However there almost has to be a spouse for that first family which would have been before the marriage to Martha Elam. I personally am not totally convinced that Jesse Grigg who went to Rutherford County NC was the same Jesse Grigg who had those first family members.  I wonder if perhaps there was a missing son - a Jesse Jr. who married Martha Elam...

Carol Morrison once did a great job in convincing me that Jesse of Rutherford NC was Jesse who was credited with marrying Nancy Webb though at that time she did not see any documentation that he was married to a Nancy Webb.  Perhaps Carol might convince me again by her reasoning because I have lost it though I remember it had to do with tax records etc.

As far as Jesse being the son of Abner Grigg and Mary Ford, I have never seen documentation that that is correct though it is the given lineage.   I think most of the records from where they lived are destroyed by fire or flood but again Carol might answer this better than I...

Becky I just saw this again as I clearing out my email....Nancy is not considered impossible as we know there  was an earlier wife but there is no documentation that she personally existed or was the wife...so....But with Martha Elam there is an actual marriage bopnd in existance.  Marilyn
