received this email - It does and doesn't fit into my scenario of Woody Grigg.  Good grief these folks sure took their middle names seriously.  And have also had pointed out to me that who I call Woody Jr. may be the Wilderone Grigg in Scott, MO in 1870 - he is living near the Carrol Grigg family from TN and I know the two families were close. 

 

Did any of you read Harry Potter????  I think I need a bunch of "sorting hats"

Maybe I didn't get this part through.......  I received this e-mail from Mary Louise at Ancestry.  Do you see what I mean, it kind of fits with my theory of Woody's family and it kind of doesn't.  Do you think perhaps she is related more to the Lewis Grigg family - the one that holds the reunion in NC every year or do you think she is related to my Woody?

 

This is her email to me - would love some input  Like I said, to me it looks like they really got into their middle names - I know this is true of Joab Grigg's son in MS - He was Alfred Woodard but in the census in MS he is listed as Woody.

How are you related?  Woody Grigg and Mary Barton were my great great grand parents.  I knew Asa A. Grigg, my grandfather, the grandson of Woody Grigg. I am having difficulty going back further than Woody Grigg.  I found a Woody Greig (born bet 1770-1780) - See 1840 Census, Pickens Co., SC.  He may have be the father of William Woodrow Griggs, born  1812.  I have recently found someone on the internet that may have more information.  I believe her line is James Lewis Griggs, the son of William Woodrow Grigg (or Woody Griggs).   .  My line comes from James Lewis Griggs's brother, Frederick W. Grigg, born 1842 & whose father is William Woodrow Griggs, born 1812..

 

William Woodrow Grigg was on the 1860 Census in DeKalb Co., AL as Woody Grigg, and on the 1850 census in Cass Co., GA as William Griggs.  The children and wife names and ages all match up.
