Does anyone know the children of Burwell Grigg married to Sabra Elam?
I have someone telling me that my Joel Grigg married to Eunice Patterson is the son of Burwell Grigg and Sabra Elam and not who I have as his parents (Jesse Grigg and Martha Elam)... I am sure they are wrong and if I had the children of Burwell I can try to figure out why they think that....

Has the old Grigg web site ever been fixed and running again?

Becky, I have 16 children listed for Burwell and Sabra. As soon as I can
figure out how to do it I'll sent the list to you. Burwell was my 3rd
great-grandfather.

This documention is sketchy and not well done though my originals are....I
just am short on time...so I am hoping you will ask Carol to give you a good
sheet on it or some of the other descendents. If they are not listed on
this sheet I disproved them.

Vi,  I show Burwell Grigg who was father of Amy Grigg was the other   Burwell Grigg of Greensville  VA-his will even names  Richard Mabry and their daughter.  Do you have something that disproves that?

Amey Grigg and Richard Mabry, February 28, 1793.  Marriage Bond dated
February 23, 1793, page 27, Greensville County, Virginia; Marriage Returns,
page 148, Greensville County, Virginia.
In the Name of God Amen I Burrell Grigg of Greensville County do make this my
last Will and Testament in manner and form following ...Item I give and
bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Adams ...Item I give and bequeath to my
Daughter Mary Grigg ...Item I give and bequeath to my Grand Daughter Susan
Burrell Mabry ...this to be my only last Will and Testament this Twentieth
Day of October 1800.

Somewhere I used to have the full will copied but this is from my notes abstracted from it.
Carol used to show the will on her siteBut I the rest of my info matches yours.

Marilyn, you could be right.  The only thing I have about Amy is that her husband was Richard Mabry.  I have a copy of Burwell and Sabra's will, dated 1835, and there's no mention of anyone except Frederick.  I seem to remember that Burwell didn't have much...actually, looking more closely, what I have seems to be an indenture (whatever that is)by which Burwell and Sabra sold a parcel of land to Frederick for $150.00. The writing's beautiful, but hard to read!

I also have a copy of the will of Burrell Grigg of Cleveland Co, NC dated 1877.  No Amy there...children listed as:  Nancy J., Levi, Christopher, Phoebe Moore, Edward J., James, Polly Hoyle, Alfred, Millie, B. Franklin.

Is the Burwell you're referring to the Burwell who was born 28 Apr 1741, Bristol Parish, Prince George Co., Va.,died 2 Jun 1808 Emporia, Greensville Co., VA.  He was married to Mary Carroll.  They had 8 children, Carroll, Susannah, Jesse, Martha, Amy, Edmund, Elizabeth, and Mary.  A copy of his will mentions a granddaughter, Susan Burwell Mabry but there's no mention of Amy.

I will attach a copy of the will of Burwell Grigg of Greensville VA.  As you mentioned it only mentions the granddaughter in the will but since the last name is Mabry it identifies the relationship.....also I have been in touch with Grigg relatives in Illinois who say they know there is a Bible of Richard Blount Grigg that shows the information  on this family which mentions her as their child.  You will see that the Will is copied from Cleo Grigg Johnson's book which was discussed at much length -but I feel this
particular info  is very accurate based on my own research with it..

Amy Grigg Mabry was born 9 March  1772 and died before 1800  according to Cleo and  her descendents ; have no reason to doubt this information which is taken from a Family Bible.   She was married 23 Feb 1793 to Richard Mabry Greensville Co, VA.   I tend to accept family info as it is given unless someone has info to cast doubt on it.

Marilyn, thanks for the copy of the will.  I accept the information you have on Amy...I think I got mine on Amy's married name from my cousin Sally.  I do have an Amy as the child of Burwell and Sabra in a list of their children sent to me years ago by a cousin of my dad's in Illinois.  That didn't have a husband for her.  Do you have a daughter named Amy for Burwell and Sabra?

I'd be glad to share what I have, but I don't believe it's a will.  As I look at it more closely, it seems to be an indenture (whatever that is)by which Burwell and Sabra sold a parcel of land to Frederick for $150.00. The writing's beautiful, but hard to read!  If you'd like a copy of that I'll send one.

no and it is carefully eliminated.  There is none here in Illinois and the source that it came from originally was in error and gave the husband as Mabry.  It is really unfortunate there is no listing of his heirs on a document....not sure why....I know the theory is he died poor but I think likely he quit claimed his land to his children which was also done in some of my other lines.  Not sure how to find it though - the search goes on...

I did not find Burwell's will at all I think though Vi and if you have one and would share it I will be so grateful....His headstone is gone if it ever existed but I have been told Sabra is buried on a farm though I do not remember the name but have it somewhere.Burrell may well have been buried in Hastings as was my Alexander Glenn and he has no headstone either...they sank into the ground, Vi.  Most of the existant one were excavated by the genealogy group.  Dean and Nelda told me once they stopped when they had found the ones they  knew people were looking for and I had not been looking yet.  I do know there are likely more stones under the ground because a group went there and took me and "witched" it...I saw it dip...I did not know whether to credit it but see it now being done by the police when searching for a missing person....so I guess I credit it a little more.

I do believe Alexander has to be there as it was, I think, originally his land.  His son my gr grandpa is named as making his coffin in the probate records.  Burrell likely lived nearby as I know for sure Bolin did...

But Burrell and his sons were Baptist and I am not sure if they were buried near the Baptist Church...a descendent by name of Carolyn Grigg Lovelace says he is buried in Hastings....I met her personally once.

I am looking for the source ie document that proves Richardson is the son of Burrell and Sabra.  I have seen many trees that state that this is the case but I have yet to find a document.  I would also love to know where the birth dates and places came from. So far the only evidence I have about Richardson is the census info and the marriage indexes from Bond Co., Illinois.  I am new to USA family history and find it fascinating but it can be challenging with the lack of actual certificates.  Any help is welcome.
