Hey everyone!  I was just thinking the other day about posting to our group!

Has anyone read any of John A. Brayton’s series on Virginia and North Carolina?  The Volume II Book might be a “boon” to your research!  It was for me!!!!

As many of you know, I was able to submit an supplemental application to NSDAR on Burwell Grigg.  I know it doesn’t seem special,  but I proved a new granddaughter – Wincey Grigg who married Lawrence G. Whitehorn – which opens a multitude of new descendants.

Brayton’s book is entitled “Colonial Families of Surry and Isle of Wight Counties, Virginia   Volume 2  The Descendants of Robert Harris”.  All of his books are sourced and it’s a wow!!  I am descended from Robert Harris and the only way I would have discovered it was Brayton gives a brief history on the Carrill/Carrell families.  Burrrel/Burwell married Mary Carrill and he presents research on her father.  Brayton’s research can almost get a person to Jamestown!!  Absolutely fascinating!!  He is producing many volumes, so check the volumes for family leads.

More later.  Let me hear!  AND GOOD LUCK!!!

Best, Ann Carlton Oppenheimer

Louise, did I ever tell you that I found out that Wilderone is really Woody Jr.  In 1930 he is in Macon, NC, in 1840 he is in SC, I think Pickens, in 1850, DeKalb Co., AL.  and then on to is it Ohio where Wilderone is?  anyway same person all the way

no, no they were both Woodard.  Woodard is the way his name is listed in the Bible of the family of Airy McKenzie Grigg, Woody's wife at the time of his death in TN.  The census taker must have just heard or written the first name wrong.  the children of "Wilderone" are the children of Woody Grigg Jr., who is found in 1850 in DeKalb, AL.
