[Another dose of ‘Red’ humor to end the week, this time on going to school in Iowa]

Mom wanted me to go to Iowa State. Dad wanted me to go to a real school.  The truant officer said he’d be happy if I went to elementary school once in a while.

So I did. My parents thought they’d have to burn the school down to get me out of 8th grade.  I fooled them. I never got that far.

I spent two years in Kindergarten; what does a kid do to fail Kindergarten?

Finally made it to First Grade and pleased to get good grades. Proud to get a B in recess and C- in lunch.

I remember spending two terms in Second Grace – Coolidge’s and Hoover’s.

In Third Grade I spent so much time standing in the corner I started to get wall-eyed.

I didn’t do so well in Fourth Grade but it wasn’t my fault.  They were studying all new stuff.  The teacher said I seemed stupid, but she was a college graduate so compared to her, no wonder.

When I went back for Fifth Grade my desk was just like I left it.  On top was a pencil and tablet. On the side was an outlet for my electric razor.

Sixth Grade was great.  I took a half dozen subjects and passed in all but six of them.  Every time I raised my hand to ask a question the teacher said I had permission to go to the restroom. When I got back evidently the question had been answered.

Our local Junior High has turned out some good men.  It only took a few weeks in Seventh Grade for them to turn me out.  My folks wanted me to go back again and try to make up for not going to grade school very much.

So I’ve concluded that there is a spark of genius in every one of the kids except me.  I guess I had ignition trouble.

I not only didn’t know anything, I didn’t even suspect anything.
