The wife and I love to walk the beach in summer. We noticed a gal who was at the beach every day, and often walked up to folks sunbathing or just relaxing on the beach.

She wasn’t unusual, and most of the folks she approached would listen, then shake their heads “No” and she’d leave.  To some, however, there would be a quick exchange of money for a small package she carried in her bag.

We assumed she was selling drugs and debated calling the cops but decided just to watch her more closely. We noticed her trend was to see her go only to people listening with portable radios or other electronic devices.

So, the next day I took a towel and an old boom box and sat down for a personal undercover “sting” operation.

The plan went off without a hitch, and after she’d left me, my wife met me and asked, “Was she selling drugs?”

“No,” I responded. “I found out her name is Sally and she’s only selling batteries.”

“Batteries?” cried my wife.

“Yes,” I replied. “She sells C cells by the seashore.”
