[Since retirement, I’m not reading or preaching very much and found my growth of vocabulary unchallenged. Here are some words I am trying to work into sentences that will not sound “perissologous” (superfluous verbiage) or “orotund” (pompous). After all, the last way I want to come across is “supercilious” (haughty).]
perspicacious = astute
copacetic = satisfactory
borborygmus = noise a stomach makes when hungry
quixotic = not sensible about practical matters
bloviate = brag
hortatory = advisory
riposte = quick/witty retaliatory reply
abstemious = restrained in consumption of food and alcohol
callipygian = possessing a shapely derriere
imbroglio = confused predicament
mendacious = deceptive
effluvium = unpleasant smell
pusillanimous = cowardly
folderol = nonsense (like this vocabulary list)
