My wife shared that August 5th was her “spiritual birthday”. In 1957 she trusted Christ alone for salvation, rejecting the works of church rituals, turning from sin in genuine repentance, and submitting to Him as Lord and Savior.
I remember one of the first times I ever heard her was in our college Chapel. Her beautiful soprano voice singing the song “Hidden Peace” and touched my heart. She sang it on many occasions as the president’s wife was a well-known speaker and when she traveled, she had Teresa come as soloist.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone else sing it. To me it will always be “her” song,
1. I cannot tell thee whence it came,
This peace within my breast;
But this I know, there fills my soul
A strange and tranquil rest.
Refrain
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul,
Tho’ the billows of sin near me roll,
There’s a deep, settled peace in my soul.
2. Beneath the toil and care of life,
This hidden stream flows on;
My weary soul no longer thirsts,
Nor am I sad and lone. [Refrain]
3. I cannot tell the half of love,
Unfeigned, supreme, divine,
That caused my darkest inmost self
With beams of hope to shine. [Refrain]
4. I cannot tell thee why He chose
To suffer and to die,
But if I suffer here with Him
I’ll reign with Him on high. [Refrain]

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ.” (Col. 4:2-3)
