Biggest Tip: Understand the exam. Know what you're getting into. Knowing what the questions look like and how they are formatted makes it much easier to focus on the content of the exam. Knowing what to expect also makes the exam less intimidating.

Review the types of questions asked, how much time is allowed, and practice beforehand! Doing these will help maximize your time during the exam since you don't have to figure out what each question wants you to do. Going along with this, be sure to review the performance based questions or PBQ's. You will want to know the general format and ideally will have practiced a few (link to practice below). Many people lose time on the PBQ's because they weren't expecting them or just weren't ready for them.

Time management is key during these exams. Don't spend a lot of time on any one question. At no point in my exam did I feel rushed or pressed for time. Preparing and learning pacing will give you that sense of comfort to help you focus on doing your best instead of watching your time tick down. The PBQ's are usually the biggest time concern. My strategy was I looked at the PBQ and if I knew how to do it, I did it. If not, I looked at it/worked on it for a minute or so and then flagged it and moved on. I feel like this goes without saying but, if you finish early, you should review your answers to make sure you are comfortable with your choices and didn't make any silly errors. I finished without about 30 minutes left and spent the rest of my time going over my answers.

For the non-PBQ questions, don't overthink them. Read it, think about it, answer it, move on. If you aren't sure, pick an answer and flag the question for your review. Process of elimination is your best friend. It can be easier to pick out why an answer isn't right than to pick the right answer. Read all of the choices and start mentally crossing off the choices you know are not right. My final suggestion for the test is to read the last sentence of the question first. Yes, I know this seems backwards. But, for me, reading the last sentence made me aware of what the question wanted before introducing all of the "extra" information the question gives. This makes it easier to pick out keywords in the question that are pointing to the right answer. Sometimes, I didn't even need to read the question other than the last sentence, but I definitely recommend still reading the entire question so you don't miss any details.

Mike Chappel's Security+ course on LinkedIn Learning. This was the first resource I used and I watched all of his videos covering the security+ exam. These videos are succinct but cover what needs to be known. Professor Messer on YouTube. These videos are usually more in-depth than Mike Chappel's and there seemed to be a lot more videos. For this reason, I primarily used his videos for more complex topics or if I needed additional clarification on a topic (looking at you cryptography). Cyberbytes Security+ bootcamp. This was a great review the week before my exam. It was helpful to make sure I covered all areas and provided some discussion with other people about the topics which was nice. Also free!

Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals by Mark Ciampa. Not gonna lie, I didn't actually use this much because I thought the videos did a good job and felt comfortable. But I did use it some so I thought I'd include it. CompTIA Security+ Certification by 30 Bird Media, provided by Cyberbytes bootcamp. Went through this book during the bootcamp and it had some good information.

IOS app: CompTIA Security+ Exam Prep by Thanh Hung. This was a very helpful app with lots of questions and tests. You can set a daily reminder to use the app, choose tests based on difficulty, and break down questions by domain. This was one of my most used resources and helped me feel very prepared for the test. CompTIA has a practice PBQ on their website I recommend trying as well as a few other examples found here and here. Other practice test sources found here and a quizlet with flashcards that you can also quiz yourself with.

The CompTIA A+ Certification Prep 1: Hardware course teaches you about the hardware common to nearly every personal computer, including microprocessors, RAM, power supplies, motherboards, UEFI/BIOS, the system setup utility, the expansion bus, and input/output devices.
